Simon Cowell, orang yang paling dianggap unik oleh penonton dan peserta reality show American Idol karena komentarnya yang kebanyakan menyayat hati dan arogan, kali ini mungkin akan menyayat hati dunia per-DJ-an. Kesuksesannya membawa America Idol dan serial talent show barunya X-Factor, sepertinya belum cukup, dia ingin menambah besar kerajaannya dengan TV-Show terbarunya.

Melihat perkembangan dunia DJ yang sangat pesat akhir akhir ini, dimana DJ sudah dianggap sebagai "the new rockstar", membuat dia ingin untuk menggarap lahan baru ini.

"DJ's are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show," Menurutnya.

Format show baru ini akan di co-produce bareng SYCO, sebuah perusahaan joint venture bareng Sony Music dan Overbrook, sebuah perusahaan entertainment milik bintang hollywood Will Smith.

~~Kira kira siapa aja yang bakal jadi juri? Skrillex? Afrojack? atau mungkin Paris Hilton??? Akankah kita melihat air mata DJ menetes karena dicela cela oleh simon? huhuhu...~~

Sepertinya Simon Cowell tahu diri dan tidak ikut serta dalam panel juri. Menurut situs ini, barisan juri sudah dipilih antara lain selebritis saudaranya Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian (???), dan dj gondrong Steve Aoki, Jamie Jones, DJ no.1 versi Resident Advisor dan pioneer Trance Paul Oakenfold. Sebagai mentor ditarik Frankie Knuckes untuk melatih DJ DJ baru ini tampil diatas panggung.

Banyak nada negatif tentang adanya kompetisi ini, tapi ada juga yang mendukung, seperti Deadmau5, dikutip dari Inthemix:

“There’s just no way in hell im going to come out guns blazing with an attitude like ‘FCUK this, this isnt real DJ’ing, or has nothing to do with anything and blah blah blah’,” he begins. “This concept, if anything, is going to catapult the awareness of EDM through the roof. People dont have to embrace this as gospel… nobody’s asking anyone to.”

gua penasaran bakal kayak gimana nanti proses kompetisi ini?
soalnya menilai DJ ga kayak ngeliatin penyanyi nyanyiin satu lagu yang cuma 3 menit, bahkan kurang. bayangin kalau kita harus lihat 10 finalis main, plus selingan komentar juri, mungkin waktu 2 jam ga cukup.

gua rasa yang bakal dinilai dari kompetisi ini mungkin akan lebih berat kepada DJ turntablist, yang bisa bikin mashup beberapa lagu dalam waktu singkat. secara yang membackup adalah will smith the fresh prince, kemungkinan akan berkiblat ke hip hop, DMC style.
