Release Note:

Prefuse 73, real name Guillermo Scott Herren, will release his next album this April, entitled The Only She Chapters.

With a gaggle of albums on the esteemed Warp Records, Herren is a steadfast producer of avant-garde hip-hop. His records are always heavy on guest vocalists, with past releases featuring everyone from Blonde Redhead to Ghostface Killah. The Only She Chapters is no exception, but this time the focus is on female collaborators, including American indie artist Zola Jesus, Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond and Trish Keenan of Broadcast, who tragically passed away last month. The production style is different as well: the hip-hop syncopation is still there, but the sounds are more modern classical than glitchy and electronic.

"This record is a weird one for me," says Herren. "This can be seen as a departure from other albums, but it's not a departure intended to leave people feeling alienated or baffled. It's just a different way to interpret my music and it's an open invitation for anyone that wants to listen."
