Demo cds for the aspiring and upcoming DJ probably makes the best use staying at home or being available on the net for friends to listen.

is it pointless handing over demo cds to promoters in this era of dance music?

it seems the big nights and clubs are always looking for up and coming  Djs with a history, mainly released production / press etc.
On the contrary to the early years of dance music where demo cds were more or less a focal point for aspiring djs.
Is it hard for a young and talented Dj's to breakthrough throgh CD demo ????

the big point in this topic , i think its just all about wasting time or not ?
my opinion will saying that the music will be long and lasting ,is it gonna change your soul in the future or someday you willl stop loving the music ???
I dont thing its a part of wasting time , cause everything related to the music must be enjoyable and the music is a universal language...
jadi kesimpulannya buat demo CD sih sah-sah aja nggak perlu pikirin buang waktu...or buang duit or something negative...toh nantinya bisa relted juga dengan global links ,producer/label/promoter /club management dll

As a promoter it's always best to stick with what'll bring in the money to cover the costs so to speak. That's quite easy to do with the right amount of marketing and bringing in "Known Names". However, I'm always on the look out for new and aspiring DJs and infact relish the opportunity to be able to give the chance to someone whos never played outside of their bedroom or mates parties.
There are certain things though that will grab my attention other than the obvious mixing and tune selection. I like to receive a full promo pack which should include Full Biography, be truthful as it's easy to find out lies with the internet, References (Places you've played), And of course the all important CD including Tracklisting. Presentation is key here, CDs with your email and name scribbled on in marker ARE NOT impressive and show that maybe you're not really prepared to make the effort or you heart isn't in lit ike joe bloggs who's printed or labelled the CD and it's details (Cover, Tracklist etc)

I think the Demo CD is still important. Good Promoters always look for ways to improve and change and offer something different. To be honest, it may be easy to D/L a demo but where's the personal touch and Heart in that? Effort brings reward.

hmmm demo menurut gue sih sah2 aja... waste of time? ngga juga. berhubung gue at the moment lagi gak punya equipment selain komputer gue tercinta ini, jadi gue bikin demo cd gue untuk gue latihan... sekaligus ngelatih flow musik gue...

once i record my set, gue akan upload untuk di share ke temen2... and see hows people reactions...

jadi IMHO, demo cd masih penting buat gue untuk

2. Get feeback
3. Promosi teteup.. hehe
