Yes, the voting has begun to find the Top 20 greatest hardware synths on the planet.

The most influential ground breaking electronic instruments will then be featured in the Top 20 Greatest Synths IPTV series in 2007. Full length webisodes featuring pictures, facts, footage and interviews with the people who made 'em and the people who played 'em.

Your votes will be considered by our panel of judges that include Roger O'Donnell from The Cure, Ade Utley from Portishead and Will Gregory from Goldfrapp, who will be sharing their views about synths and their contribution to music and pop culture.

We know we will never compile a list that suits everybody, but let's hope some of your favourites make it to the show and the only way to be sure is by voting now on the Greatest Synths Page here at Sonic.

(One vote per person. Multiple votes will be detected and frankly ignored!)

It started as a discussion in the office that turned into an argument down the pub and has now become a full blown mission to find the Top 20 Greatest Synths of all time.

But here's the thing. We need your help.
Submit your top 3 favourites below and our panel of judges including Roger O from THE CURE, Ade Utley from PORTISHEAD and Will Gregory from GOLDFRAPP will be making a shortlist from your suggestions.

Then (and here's the good bit) we're gonna produce a Top 20 Greatest Synths IPTV show exclusively for Sonic State members! There'll be Music, photos, footage, specs and interviews with the people who made 'em and the people who played 'em. Everything you need to know about the finest electronic instruments ever produced will be right here at Sonic State and all you have to do to take part is send us your list.

OK we know, it's a tough call. But here's some pointers to help you choose.

1)The chart is about hardware, so no softies (we'll be doing a software chart next year)
2)'Greatest' means the most inspirational, the most influential, the most iconic and the sexiest - er - basically the one with the most knobs on wins.
3)It's 'synths' not 'keyboards' so don't include the Rhodes.
