Dutch dance music giant ID&amo;T closes its label

At the beginning of 2005 Dutch dance music superpower ID&T closed its record label. The company decided to focus its efforts on media and club events instead.

The label, best known for catapulting the careers of Marco V and Rank 1 had been responsible for some of the most defining dance music of the decade.

Head of A&R at ID&T Dick De Groot decided to set up a new label called Be Yourself Music.

He took with him Marco V, Rank 1, Benjamin Bates, Paul Van Dyk (Benelux only), Marcel Woods and the Subliminal label along with the entire ID&T back catalogue.

Dick De Groot assured DJmag that the closure of the label had nothing to do with falling record sales.

"The label was doing very well and was making a lot of money," said Dick.

"But ID&T runs a very successful radio station and magazine too and so experienced conflicts of interest.

"Other labels complained that ID&T radio and magazine only promoted ID&T music. So, it made sense to make the label a separate company altogether."
