The festival was in fact a 2 day event, having started on Friday 28th July. It was a fairly last minute decision to attend, much in part due to the fact that this could be the last of the summer music festivals that I shall be able to go to this year, since I'll be in Ibiza from Aug 25th till Sep 8th.  It was the first time I'd been to Global Gathering, as in recent years I've headed to Ibiza around this time and so instead usually go to Creamfields at the end of August.

I pretty much knew my plan of attack in advance and indeed I ended up sticking to it. So after taking the photos for the website and chilling out with a few drinks at the main stage/beach arena, I headed for the Bedrock tent.

I arrived in there in time for Spooky's live set. They played more or less the same set they had played at the Glade Festival 2 weeks previously, and once again it was a set of deep, atmospheric beauty!

Next up was Fabric legend Lee Burridge. The crowd at this point had become noticeably busier, with perhaps the younger element having not really known much about Spooky but at the same time very much knowing what Burridge is all about.  Burridge didn't disappoint with a trademark diverse set supplemented by technical ability.

After Burridge was Hernan Cattaneo, whom was a big favourite of mine a few years ago when he was playing his deep, tribal sound. However I was in much need of a break by that point and so headed back outside for a bit to chill out. I came back in to catch the second half of Cattaneo's set, and he was dropping a more progressive, slightly trancier sound, as he has done the past few times I've seen him. I was still in chillout and recovery mode during his set though, so didn't get into it in the same way I had Spooky and Burridge.

Following on from Cattaneo was the mighty Danny Howells.  Howells is a DJ whom I have seen many times over the past couple of years, and he has never disappointed. The man really knows how to build a set and work a crowd and indeed his set turned out to be my favourite of the day. Right now I can't think of a better DJ on the planet for pleasing a live crowd, although perhaps James Zabiela runs him close.

Master of all things Bedrock, John Digweed, was next in line, and although a daunting task to follow on from Howells, this was of course no problem for someone of Digweed's experience.  Digweed played out a really dark set but it was still upbeat enough to keep the crowd firing on all cylinders, in the same manner to which they had been accustomed during Danny Howells.

So it came to the end of Digweed's set and I was well and truly in need of a break, and indeed was more or less a 'spent force' by that point.  Josh Wink was on after Digweed but I sacrificed the opportunity of listening to his set in order to grab some much needed food. I spent some time checking out Funk D'Void in the Carl Cox tent before returning to the Bedrock tent to catch at least part of both Josh Wink's and Eric Prydz's sets.

Another DJ I would like to have seen was Ben Sims, who was spinning in the Carl Cox tent. However he was on at 03:30, and by that stage I wasn't in the right frame of mind to enjoy a banging techno set.

So that was my first ever trip to Global Gathering and overall I was pretty impressed, so I expect I'll be back in the future.

And now for the rest of the photos...
