Buat pecinta musik, mungkin Grammy Awards udah ga asing lagi di kuping. Award tahunan yang menjadi ajang musik paling bergengsi di dunia ini diselenggarakan oleh the National Academy of Recordings Arts and Sciences mengambil nama Grammy karena sebelumnya award ini disebut sebagai the Gramophone Awards, bisa dilihat dari bentuk fisik awardnya sendiri. Award ini pertama kali diselenggarakan pada tahun 1958, dan pada tahun ini adalah ajang ke 53 dan eventnya sendiri mengambil venue Staples Center, Los Angeles.

Tahun ini ada 109 kategori dalam award ini, beberapa memberikan penghargaan kepada Dance Music. Beberapa artis Dance yang membawa pulang pialanya antara lain  adalah duo asal inggris - La Roux yang memenangkan Best Electronic / Dance Album mengalahkan nama nama besar EDM seperti BT, The Chemical Brothers, Goldfrapp dan Groove Armada, nominasi Album Laroux ini sebenarnya sempat dipertanyakan karena album ini dirilis pada akhir tahun 2009.

Veteran Dance Music, David Guetta meraih penghargaan Grammy Awardsnya untuk kedua kalinya atas remixnya bersama Afrojack untuk lagu Revolver dari Madonna yang masuk sebagai Best Remixed Recording yang juga diisi oleh artis EDM lain seperti Morgan Page, Wolfgang Gartner, Mike Rizzo dan Axel Hedfors.

Kategori yang lain yang masih berhubungan dengan Dance Music adalah Best Dance Recording dimana Rihanna berhasil menyabet itu untuk lagunya Only Girl mengalahkan Goldfrapp, Laroux, Lady Gaga dan Robyn.

I guess hollywood needs to leave the dance music awards to those who understands it.....exactly what you get when trend and glamour are what counts more than the music itself...
