Resident Advisor top 100 DJ 2011

Bulan desember kemarin salah satu portal EDM terbesar didunia yang berasal dari Australia, Resident Advisor, mengumumkan list 100 DJ terbaik menurut versi website ini. Banyak yang bilang kalau polling yang dilakukan oleh Resident Advisor adalah hasilnya cukup mewakili perkembangan DJ yang lebih underground dibanding DJ Mag Top 100, yang banyak orang menilai cuma jadi kontes populer dan menghasilkan DJ DJ yang relatif komersil.

Dari hasil polling terlihat banyak didominasi DJ Techno, diurutan pertama adalah Jamie Jones, diikuti oleh Seth Troxler, Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos dan Maceo Plex. Di polling ini kita sama sekali ga nemuin artis artis yang sering nongol di DJ Mag Top 100 seperti Tiesto, Guetta atau Armin van Buuren, dan banyak lagi DJ yang mungkin gak banyak kita dengar sebelumnya.

Polling ini dilakukan hanya 2 minggu sebelum list diumumkan di websitenya www.residentadvisor.net tanggal 6 desember 2011. Idealis or Komersil? Ini daftar lengkapnya:

[h2]01. Jamie Jones[/h2]

"The chillest bro in dance music."

That's the way one RA staff member described Jamie Jones earlier this year. And while that may be true behind the decks, the rise of the Hot Creations boss is more down to hard work. By our count, Jones was billed at 142 gigs in 2011, which means he nearly averaged a set every second day. Couple this with a lauded fabric CD, a whole host of remixes and the expert co-curation of a label that came to define the sound of clubland in 2011, and you're left with a simple equation. The hottest tracks + the most gigs = the #1 DJ of 2011.

[h2]02. Seth Troxler[/h2]

In 2009, Seth Troxler told Little White Earbuds that he'd "retired" at age 16 when he quit his job at The Palace in Detroit (they wouldn't let him work with dreadlocks). Now 26, he hasn't held a "normal" job since, but that doesn't mean he hasn't put in the hours. 2011 was a dizzying year for Troxler—starting a label (Visionquest), founding a charity (Red Dot Relief) and playing at countless parties around the globe. His class clown persona might make it seem like he doesn't take any of it seriously, but nothing could be further from the truth. Seth Troxler is one of most driven DJs out there, and it pays off.

[h2]03. Richie Hawtin[/h2]

We expressed wonderment last year that Richie Hawtin bothered to DJ at all in 2010. The same was true in 2011: Taking his mammoth Plastikman show to smaller spaces and to another technological level might've been enough. It clearly wasn't, if his diary was any indication. Without three of his key compatriots— Magda, Marc Houle and Troy Pierce left to focus on Items & Things—it's clear that Hawtin will have to be more focused than ever in 2012. Judging by his work ethic, we'd be surprised if he weren't up to the challenge.

[h2]04. Ricardo Villalobos[/h2]

It could be said that Ricardo Villalobos enjoys a cult of personality: few artists fill clubs so easily, and as a debonair artiste with a hedonistic streak, he's underground clubland's perfect poster boy. But that only accounts for a small part of his following. Some two decades into his career, Villalobos still has that inimitable mad scientist quality, whether he's boggling minds at fabric or remixing modern jazz records for ECM. In some ways he's a victim of his own success—good luck catching him in an intimate setting these days—but he remains one of electronic music's true visionaries.

[h2]05. Maceo Plex[/h2]

It's safe to say Eric Estornel had a pretty killer year. After nearly two decades of DJing and making records––mostly as Maetrik, more recently as Maceo Plex––he released Life Index, a breakthrough album that thrust him into the limelight. A month later he played at Get Lost in Miami and arguably outshone all of his fellow Crosstown Rebels. The rest, as they say, is history. Today he makes it into the top 100 for the first time all the way up in the top five, easily the highest ranking debut since the RA DJ reader poll began.

thanks for the input. tapi banyak banget tuh dj luar jawa yang minta dibuatin kategori. well, kita ga ada masalah sih mengakomodir mereka. tapi apa yang udah mereka kasih ke komunitas? gua jarang banget liat DJ kalimantan / sulawesi yang posting disini, atau at least bikin pengumuman event disini. menunjukkan eksistensi mereka aja males, gimana mau dibikinin award? tahu keberadaan mereka aja kita ga bisa, gimana kita mau cari the best of the best regional lain? jangan cuma merengek minta dibikinin award, and eat your cherry pops in the corner, show yourself!!!

gua salut ama pergerakan di lampung yang pesat banget 3 tahun terakhir. region lain mana pergerakannya???
kalau mau dibikinin award, tunjukkan dulu hal yang pantas dikasih award, bikin sesuatu dalam skala nasional bukan cuman kualitas lokal. seharusnya region lain meniru apa yang dilakukan lampung khususnya PPF.

kok gw ngeliat list ini rada2 kurang sreg ya. maceo plex, art department, maya jane coles di top 10. mereka ngetop karena produksi mereka, sedangkan sebagai DJ bisa dibilang anak kemaren sore tapi ga tau juga, gw blom pernah liat mereka nge-dj, mungkin emang keren. yg jelas essential mix-nya art dept bikin gw ngantuk it's just a poll anyway, semua orang bisa ngevote, termasuk PR n street team overall menarik kok nih list-nya, tapi anehnya ga ada dewa2 disco nih, todd terje, greg wilson, prins thomas satu pun ga ada

emang sih, tapi intinya, menurut gw list-nya rada ngeblur antara top DJ's sama top producers. tapi emg DJ-ing sama producing ga bisa dipisahin jg ya. artis yg produksinya nge-hit otomatis sebagai DJ namanya keangkat bgt. contohnya ya maceo plex aka maetrik tadi. anyway, thanks infonya bro
