Winky Wiryawan is well known to people as an actor model and, of course, a DJ. But little did we know he's also a competitive breaker and guitarist, with many trophies to prove.
His initial interest in DJ-ing came in 1988 when he saw a DJ playing at Lipstick Discoskate Bandung, there and then he promised himself to be a DJ someday. The second time came in 1994, when he felt challenged to do something that he'd never done before; mixing two different songs and make it to be original. Moreover, at the same time he was entranced with brake beats and house music. Since then everything else is history.
Now, after two decades of playing on clubs and rave parties, he comes up and adds his milestone by releasing an album to show his true self.
Winky has always had wide preference on music. From hardcore guitar rifts of heavy metal to the beatbox sound of hip-hop to the swings of jazz to the psychedelic sound of new wave to the non-organic sound of electronic music.
This album is an encapsulation journey of his sense of music, since childhood to the present time.
The first CD is dedicated to his career as a DJ. It portrays his skills and craftmanship as a DJ. The nuance of the first CD takes you to a party in Avalon, Los Angeles. It makes you feel like you just stepped into an electric rave scene. A mixture of brakes, melodic, acid, electro with a hint of trap music, building up to a cohesive sound from 1st track to end.
The second CD shows his tastes of music and identity as Winky Wiryawan, not the DJ. He composed all songs in which showcases his diverse influences, thick in every beat and melody. Each song crafted with different feel and nuance and enables you to travel in a time capsule and experience different phase of time with different moods.
With the help of Evan Virgan, Aqinomoto, Tatis Boom, Abdul, Audrey Meirina, Ivandeva, and Ruli Tampubolon the album becomes full circle for anyone to enjoy Winky's PLAYLIST.
