BIO:
Hernan Cattaneo

Hernan Cattaneo's twenty year journey through music shows no sign of slowing down over right now – anything but. From Bahrain to Belfast, Singapore to San Diego, Hernan's love laboured travels know no bounds in their trans-continental reach with the Argentinean on a round-the-clock mission to spread his love for electronic music. Constantly absorbing new sounds, cultures and influences from the most varied outposts possible, Hernan bleeds them into as many projects as he can – be they production work, his masterpiece mix CDs ,his radio shows or forthcoming music label.

Make no mistake, Hernan is riding a creative wave right now. Recently dropping some of his most complete productions on labels like Urbantorque, he's also stepping up his game with his new digital label which will offer a regular output for his creative visions. But for a man literally living and breathing through the scene such endeavours are simply instinctive. Put simply, for Hernan music isn't simply an occupation – it's an existence.

Indeed, one thing you'll never see Hernan do is complaining. Blessed with a passion as warm and honest as his welcoming smile, Hernan's rich journey has been rooted with an innate understanding ever since he heard imported 12"s from Frankie Knuckles, Derrick May and Inner City back in the mid 80s. Already a lover of bands like Depeche Mode and New Order, the sound at once inspired and excited Hernan with possibility. Consumed by the nascent electronic energies of Chicago, Detroit and further a field in Europe, Hernan was driven to express his passions for these sounds through DJing and soon earned a cult residency at Buenos Aires Clubland.

The epi-central club of a burgeoning Argentinean dance scene, it is here at the legendary Clubland where Cattaneo established professional respect and personal friendships with DJs like Danny Tenaglia, John Digweed and – most significantly – Perfecto boss Paul Oakenfold. Immediately impressed with Cattaneo's impassioned genre-traversing abilities, the extent of Oakenfold's belief in the Argentinean was as obvious as it was instant. Just months later Cattaneo was invited to join Oakenfold on a European wide Perfecto tour.

With the window of global opportunity opened, the Argentinean ambassador impressed at every turn. Club giants Cream soon secured him their South American resident and were impressed enough to install him as international resident at Cream Liverpool. Rapidly gaining a taste and skill for the larger stage, Hernan doubled with appearances at festivals like Nevada's legendary Burning Man as well as key debuts at European institutions like Homelands, Bedrock, Pacha and Fabric. By the time, Hernan had mixed Perfecto's first international mix CD –South America volume – he was confirmed as one of those rare DJs able to their art in an adventure through sound – each individual set a true journey through varying genres, sounds and emotions.

Both a true DJs DJ and a peoples' favourite, Hernan's popularity spiralled within the new Millennium and his efforts were rewarded with festival sets at Creamfields, Homelands and Clapham Common festival in 2001. Always looking forward, the music lover soon turned his hands to production with a stream of deep, carefully crafted releases on Perfecto including collaborations with Cass and Mangan before his remix for Morgan Page courted vinyl release on John Digweed's standard bearing Bedrock imprint. Since Hernan's visions have explored productions many different territories, each one has been a further step on his journey through music. As a remixer labels like Deep Dish's Yoshitoshi, Ministry of Sound and Renaissance have all called upon Hernan magic touch.

As a DJ, the most lasting documents of Hernan's unique ability to weave stories from sounds are his many CD outings for the legendary Renaissance too. Back in 2005, it spoke volumes on Hernan's rising stock that he was hand-picked to succeed DJ legends like John Digweed, Deep Dish and Sasha on the aptly named Masters series. But far from sitting in the shadows of his predecessors, Hernan seized the opportunity to mark himself out as a legend in his own right. Widely loved and acclaimed, his individual mix shifted seamlessly through genres and was coloured with both the rich seam of melody and lush lulling groove that his fans have come to love and know him for.

A second seamless Masters volume followed in 2006 before Hernan embarked on his own individual Renaissance series named Sequential. For many, it is here where the Argentinean ambassador truly came into his own with a mix that was as deeply international as his own ceaseless tour diary. Uniting seductive international electronic sounds from across the globe – including Belgium, Slovenia, Norway and Poland to name just a few - Cattaneo created a timeless mix CD so carefully constructed and considered that it sits and fits perfectly to this day. It was followed by another faultless Sequential in 2007.

But as much as his CDs provide a perfect snapshot, it's that human connection that drives Cattaeno further through music. And whether he's taking crowd on an epic journey at festivals like Coachella, Exit and Creamfields or getting down to some honest house grooves at Def Mix's institutional night at Pacha Ibiza, he is able to be inspired and inspire in equal measure.

Indeed, as long as he's playing the music he loves, you can be sure of three things; that he'll be happy in whichever corner of the globe he finds himself and that those on the dancefloor are in for some special.

Renaissance celebrate the release of their 50th album with one of their favourite acolytes, Hernan Cattaneo...

There were only a handful of candidates to handle Renaissance's 50th album milestone, but perhaps none more suited than Hernan Cattaneo. His previous entries into the series have established themselves as true classics, giving rise to calls, emails, even PM's to the Renaissance office imploring us to re-secure the talents of the legendary South American.

In light of such demand, who were we to argue?

Add in the heightened anticipation of the fact it's Hernan's first compilation in two years and the stage is well and truly set, perfectly echoed in a recent post by one avid member of a dance message board, 'Damn, this is a 'must have' compilation!'

And Hernan has clearly risen to the challenge. Working alongside various friends and producers from around the world he blurs the lines between artist album and compilation by including no less than 12 of his own originals, edits and remixes within the 29 strong, 2CD track list. "You've got to distinguish a compilation in this digital age," he says, "It's important fans and listeners feel they're getting a unique mix, elevated beyond a standard club set. I hope this comes across with the album, it's the product of many sleepless nights, hours in the studio and a lot of care and passion."

Looking to the wider selection it's clear Cattaneo hasn't rested on his laurels as he features some of the brightest luminaries from the scene, taking in James Zabiela, Danny Howells, Guy Gerber, Timo Maas, Skylark, Guy J, Henry Saiz, plus many more, all segued by his flawless mixing style; yet another timeless addition to Hernan's body of work and the Masters Series.

About Eric Kupper
Over twenty years of house...!

Eric Kupper got his start over two decades ago working as a keyboardist, guitarist, and songwriter for such producer/remixers as David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Arthur Baker, Mark Kamins, Justin Strauss, Peter Rauhofer, and Richie Jones to name a few. Since 1986 he has played on, remixed, and/or produced over 1700 records for artists spanning all contemporary musical genres. He is one of the few artists in dance music today that is a master multi-instrumentalist. A true musician. Over the years, thousands and thousands of hours in the studio has polished Eric Kupper into one of the most sought after producers/remixers/musicians in the world.

The remix work is astounding. Major label artists that have taken the Kupper treatment include Garbage, Usher, Alicia Keyes, BT, Marianne Faithful, Goldfrapp, Cher, Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, Sheryl Crow, Lenny Kravitz, Kylie Minogue, Korn, Moloko, Smash Mouth, New Order, Yoko Ono, Dido, Brandy, Curtis Mayfield, Brand New Heavies, Robert Palmer, Afrika Bambaata & Soulsonic Force, Kate Bush, 808 State, Jessica Simpson, Anastacia, Donna Summer, and PM Dawn. He has worked on literally dozens of Billboard number 1 dance records and has mixed two records that have received the "Dance Record of the Year" Grammy award.

Much of Kupper's massive discography is derived from his work as a studio musician and a remixer. His work as a multi-instrumentalist and arranger has helped sell over 50 million records for artists such as Anastacia, Marc Anthony, Celine Dion, Jessica Simpson, and Jennifer Lopez. In the role of "additional production and keyboards" Eric has worked with Madonna, Celine Dion, Destiny's Child, Britney Spears, LCD Soundsystem, Coldplay, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Anastacia, Seal, Christina Aguilera, Janet Jackson, Toni Braxton, Kelis, Jamariquoi, Depeche Mode, Eric Clapton, Everything But The Girl, Björk, and David Bowie, among many others.

Eric also creates a great deal of music outside of the dance realm, including unashamed pop, heavy rock, punk, folk, indie rock, or whatever floats his musical boat. Artists include John Wesley Harding, Julee Cruise, Roisin Murphy, Coolbone, Drill, PM Dawn, The Butterflies of Love, Saint Etienne, Bonnie Bailey, Robina, Peyton, Gaz Brookfield, McQueen, Lovebites, Ofra Haza, Jaymes Bullet, Laura Pausini, and Gloria Estefan.

Some years back Eric was bitten (hard!) by the DJ bug and became a resident at London's Pacha with Hed Kandi for four years, as well as DJing all over the globe as an independent DJ or as a Hed Kandi resident. These days you can find Eric performing all over Europe, Asia, South America, as well as the U.S., sometimes with keyboards in the DJ booth for extra flavor. Eric is also a resident DJ with Fierce Angels, the recent venture created by Mark Doyle, the former creator of Hed Kandi. He is currently traveling all around the world rocking crowds from New York to Moscow to Manila...

Cementing his underground house roots, Eric has just completed his first artist album in ten years, under his critically acclaimed "K-Scope" moniker. Entitled "Electrikiss," it will be released by Nitegrooves/King Street and Grand Gallery in Japan. The first two EPs released in early 2008 were championed by DJ's all over the world including Louie Vega, Andy Caldwell, Frankie Knuckles, Kaskade, among many others. A sexy mixture of cutting edge electronics infused with undeniable soul, the new K-Scope album will be released in early 2009, as well as 2 new EP's on vinyl.

Eric's collaborations with the likes of Francois K., Frankie Knuckles, David Morales and Peter Rauhofer (among many others) are nothing short of legendary. The coming months will bring on new fresh collaborations. Stay tuned...

About Mark Knight
MARK KNIGHT - BIOGRAPHY

Ready, get set......
Mark Knight’s rise to number 42 in the DJ Mag Top 100 Poll (2008) has been more than just gigs and remixes. Not content with the status quo and outdated DJ ideas and methods, he created his own workshop for 21st century dance musicians, Toolroom Records, and with it a new way of thinking. Established in 2004, the Toolroom imprint has developed into an uncontrollable beast, forging an insatiable, genre busting sound, celebrating success as the biggest selling label on Beatport and reaching the milestone of 100 releases in 2009 with none other than Faithless as new label artists. All this on the back of 2008’s record breaking, award winning anthem ‘Man with the Red Face’, a remake, with label buddy Funkagenda, of the Laurent Garnier classic.

With Toolroom Records, Mark ripped up the rule book and pioneered the arrival of an era where the role of the DJ was more than just 2 hours behind the decks on a Saturday night. Pushing new boundaries and blending the lines between DJ and producer, Mark’s consistent stream of stellar tracks set a precedent that meant DJ dinosaurs had to shape up - DJs who don’t produce their own music have become extinct! Moreover, thanks to Mark, Toolroom has become a byword for cutting edge sounds and innovation within contemporary dance music, whether through underground sublabel ‘Toolroom Trax’ or their unparalleled pursuit of new electronic music talent.

And there’s more! Since 2006 ‘Toolroom Knights’ has provided the most visible, and hedonistic, face of Mark’s increasing popular clubbing brand, with concept led events in the world’s premier arenas from Cocoon (Frankfurt) to Space (Miami). It is testament to the popularity of Mark Knight the DJ that after a summer residency at Amnesia Ibiza in 2008, he currently holds court bimonthly at Ministry of Sound (London), the spiritual home of Toolroom Knights and also where Mark got his big break as club resident in 2003, as well as having recently confirmed new residencies at Pacha (New York) and Vanguard (Los Angeles).

If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to join Mark Knight on the global Toolroom rollercoaster through what modern day dance music is all about. Join the queue, hold tight and enjoy the ride.

PREACHOGRAPHY

Since 1996 Canadian Phillipe Babin, better known as DJ Preach to hundreds of thousands of fans around the world, has been spreading the message of electronic dance music to the masses – and they've been lapping it up.

Born and raised in Quebec, Preach became interested in DJing from a young age and cut his teeth in his home city and in Montreal, honing his sound and skills at clubs like Sona and Aria before releasing early production work on Relentless, Ascend and Edit Recordings. Soon the grand masters began to pay him attention – Tiesto, Carl Cox, Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren and Marco V were all early fans of the Preach sound, which began to filter out on major imprints such as Intec, MB Electroniks, Session and Iturnem. The world beckoned and in 2005, Preach made the permanent move to the musical hotbed of the Czech Republic in Eastern Europe.

Since then Preach has created and evolved his own labels, Relic Recording and sub-label Relic Silver with co-owner Marco G, winning him critical acclaim. His own work has been released on international powerhouse labels Black Hole, Intec, Flashover, Magik Muzik, InCharge and Spinnin. His remix of Tiesto's Carpe Noctrum featured on the Dutchman's smash 2008 album, 'Elements of Life Remixed. His techno-trance fuelled remix of Marcus Schossow and Thomas Saagstad's 'Hypnotizer' has been doing the business on all major download stores and September sees Preach's massive new original work 'Joomla' get its much-hyped release on Ferry Corsten's label Flashover Recordings.

Out of the studio and with a packed diary, Preach criss-crosses the globe, taking in countries and continents where he preaches his sound – Creamfields, Dance Valley, Gigadance, Flower Fest and Most Festival are just a selection of the festivals to fall under his spell in 2008 alone. Pushing the boundaries of trance and techno, bringing in electro and beats, Preach is already knocking on the door of the upper echelons of the DJ hall of fame.

To top things off, Preach not only continues his dominance of the airwaves through his Transatlantic show on DI.FM and Danceradio.gr, but now broadens his empire with the addition of massive the Sirius Satellite network in American and Europe's London Sounds show on PRL24. Extending his reach by well over a million listeners a week, this marks a new era in his career.

With more to come from both Preach and Relic Recordings, the second half of 2008 sees him take things up yet another gear. The message is simply, the delivery undeniable -Preach is on course to take the world by storm – expect one hell of a global conversion.
