SSR or Sound of School Recording is very famous, especially in audio engineering and film production. SSR began as a commercial recording studio in 1980 on Tariff Street in Manchester, United Kingdom. Spirit Studios continued to provide rehearsal and recording space for many Mancunian bands and international artists, notably : The Stone Roses, The Smiths, Simply Red, Happy Monday, and 808 States. In 1984, Spirit Studios made the transition from commercial recording studio to an educational facility to become the School of Sound recording (SSR). SSR was the first dedicated Audio Engineering School in the UK, being Europe's first AVID "Pro School". Now, the school housed 12 studios with equipments such as Neve VRP 60/48 Legend and PMC MB2S-A monitors , DigiCo DS-00, Digidesign ICON, Live Venue with D-Show Console, Editing Suites, DJ Booth, and Classrooms. In 2009, SSR was awarded the Manchester Evening News 'Business of the Year' 2009. SSR continues to operate as a training academy and in addition offers full university degree through its partnership with some affiliates universities in Manchester.
