TRACKLIST
01 : Malay Valley (Original Mix) [Proton Music]
02 : Shakers (Original Mix) [Proton Music]
03 : Reykjavik (Original Mix) [Proton Music]

Out now exclusively at Beatport.
Click here for more info on the release.

This EP has been a long time coming. Written by Icelandic duo Jón Frímannsson (Asli) and Atli Mar Thorvaldsson (Orang Volante), the first tune on it was done nearly two years ago but the latest one just a few months back. Some parts are done with analog gear, others on the computer. Some samples are from Icelandic jazz songs, others from this bloke screaming on about Reykjavik. Jonfri doesn't even know where they recorded him. Or maybe Atli knows. Sometimes they're in a bit of a haze.

The Malay Valley EP is a 3 track deep house vs. techno. Take your pick, and enjoy.

DJ Yellow feat. Astrid Suryanto - "To The Top"

A. Original Mix
B. Chris Fortier 40oz Acela in Pieces Dub
C. Chris Fortier 40oz Dub Remix
D. Nick K Remix
E. Nick K Dub
F. Guy J Remix

Release date: 17th of December (beatport excl. pre-release)
Label: Deep Focus 027

Release Info:

Dj Yellow's second appearing on Focus is just beautiful. His collaboration with Astrid Suryanto is receiving some serious attention at the moment and this is no wonder. "To the Top" is great piece of original music where Yellow showcases his natural feel for layering and building sounds together with his great production skills and beautiful voice of Astrid Suryanto. It's lush and haunting feel takes us through a gorgeous landscape of sounds and with his impeccable feel for great arrangements. "To The Top' is a winner for sure.

Man of the moment, Guy J surprises us with a different approach then what he normally does. He's twisted the vocal and added a vocoder giving everything a totally different feel on the song. With just minimal elements from the original he's turned it into a solid yet sophisticated club stormer, quite different from his normal productions. Chris Fortier has taken a very minimal approach to the song. Chris seems to be one of those producers who never shy away from new directions. Both versions are very similar and breathe a different kind of atmosphere then the rest of the remixes and original. It's music for connoisseur's really. Last to end this gorgeous package is Nick K. Again, a different approach which makes this an must have release for everybody. Nick's take is a bit more housier then the rest but with maximum effect. His rich and warm sound accompanies Astrid's voice in great style and his fresh arrangement is all about the dance floor. This is solid from start to finish and as a bonus he's handed in a dub version as well.

DJ Support:
Redanka: Gotta be the original Very nice.
Flash Brothers: Very interesting track, especially the cinematic vibe of the original mix. Special !
Kosmas Epsilon: guy j mix kicks ass seriously!!! straight burning onto disk, will play it out this thursday at sao paulo . hooj pack, lots of different mixes to choose from. a winner
Eelke Kleijn: Vocal mix by Nick K does it for me. Very clever arrangement, definitely in the bag.
Steve Mill: great package..great vocals..great original.
Steve Parry: liking the original - is very cool, i'll definately play!
Darin Epsilon: This is a very enjoyable package, definitely something for everyone.  As for me, I'm feeling the Nick K Dub the most.  I guess because it's the most DJ friendly and straightforward.  The Original is pretty funky as well.  Will be charting this, thanks for sharing.
Deep C: The Vocal Kills it.  Nick K\'s mix is the sweetest. 10/10
Spesh: The Guy J mix has the right mix of bleepy minimal with rich synths while the Nick K dub is more dancefloor-friendly with a driving groove.
C-Jay: i prefer the nick k remixes... very nice rework of the original. especially the vocal one.. super...
J-Punch: cool stuff. Like the vocal. Nick K mix is my favorite.

Derek Howell – Spare Time

A.    Original Mix
B.    Kosmas Epsilon Remix
C.    Christian Sol Remix
D.    Federico Epis Remix

Release date: 3th of December (beatport excl. pre-release)
Label: Groovecollection Black 007

Release Info:

Once again the American wonder producer Derek Howell teams up with Dutch record label Groovecollection Records. After his Pinkbox Special' "The Ballz" and his own "Cheeky Activity EP" releases he his now ready to hit you once again with a massive club track called "Spare Time". With established producer Kosmas Epsilon and young and upcoming producers Christian Sol and Federico Epis on remix duties this one is to watch out for.

The original version of "Spare Time" can't be described other than massive, haunting and energetic. We have no idea how Derek does it, but he keeps on making these filthy head-bangers. The haunting strings, kick-ass bassline and loads of fx and productional tricks make this one a dancefloor destroyer of the purest kind. The build in this track is amazing and the twisted distorted and panned part in the second break will leave the people both amazed and confused.

First up on remix duties is Greek producer Kosmas Epsilon who turns the prog-techy original into something real housy. A real funky bassline gets you into the groove and housy organs and strings take care of the rest. Only a few hints from the original turn back in this remix, but it's completely different and one for the housier or proggier heads.

Christian Sol is on a roll in 2007 with the highlight being his remix for Nils Noa's "X-Rated" on Groovecollection Red. Steve Lawler liked it so much he put it on his latest Viva compilation. The Norwegian producer/dj turns "Spare Time" into something more techy at a lower bpm. Very catchy and groovy this mix contains more of the original, being very different though. Somewhere between Rene Amesz and the popular tech house from today this one should appeal to both housier and techier heads.

Last up is one of Uruguay's upcoming artists Federico Epis who recently saw his "Brasilia" being hammered by none other than The Man Like. He listened carefully to the original and made into a very bass-driven cool remix. Extra synth additions and stabs hold the spooky feel the original has. But at the same time it's more groovy and bouncy. A very nice addition to complete the package.

DJ Support:
Redanka: Love KE's mix. Great groove. Great sounds. And going by this mix he's the Grecian's answer to Patrick Cowley! 8/10
Snake Sedrick: christian sol mix is good!
Stian Klo: kosmas' remix is super sexy, ace production quality aswell !  thanks, will play for sure
Steve Parry: kosmas epsilon mix mix is cool
Tom Morgan: Kosmas' mix of this is the business, will definitely play. Nice one.
Matt Rowan: I'll be supporting the kosmas remix. Quality tune with a groovy almost tribal feel to it.
Kevin Shiu: Derek is good,he makes late night mind fucked music and he is bloody good at it. Thank you very much.
Frank Chiarello: Christian Sol remix steals the show
Darin Epsilon: This is a very strong package indeed.  Really enjoy the Christian Sol. The original and Federico Epis mixes are dark and mysterious with a nice hook.  Finally, the Kosmas Epsilon remix is just amazing.  His work is just getting better and better.
Andres Solano: If you want build a perfect set, you need this tune!
Deko-ze: I am really diggin Christian Sol's plaintive and introspective mix!

The Official Blurb:

Following their collaboration on the popular remix of Francois DuBois' 'I Try,' two of the UK's hottest producers, Milton Jackson and Neil Quigley, team-up again to create an astonishingly deep and reviving piece of emotive house music. Steve Ferrand steps up on remix duty and distils the soothing, soulful elements of the track with a connoisseur's touch. 'Tijuana' is premium: life-affirming house music to raise the pulse.

Milton Jackson's been both prolific and inspired as a producer over the last few years with releases on Urbantorque, Freerange and Tronicsole amongst others. 'Tijuana' follows on from 'Fade Runner,' a diverse EP released on Urbantorque that received heavy support on Radio 1 from the Trophy Twins, and the massive 'Cycles' on Freerange, a track that's become almost ubiquitous on every deep and tech house dancefloor.

Recently propped by Hernan Cattaneo as his producer of the year, Neil Quigley's fast gaining a reputation for his studio output as strong as his DJing. Dubbed the 'Prince of Bedrock' by DJ Mag, Quiggers' taste for 'electronic music with soul' has made him a firm favourite amongst the Bedrock and Renaissance party regulars. His tireless A&R work for Urbantorque has put him in good stead to launch a successful production career.

Where To Get It:

Available from all digital emporiums now:

www.beatport.com
www.junodownload.com
www.djdownload.com

Or you can buy it direct from the Urbantorque website, where full lengths samples are available:

Murray Richardson - ""original mix all the way for me on this,,,nice way to end the year from UT and another good year its been too""

Aldrin - "The original is a cool mood track.. great for steering the night's musical direction smile"

Q-Burns Abstract Message - "Some fine deepness here. Steve Ferrand is a pulsing bit of melodic house ... I really am enjoying it"

Andy Holt (Redanka) - "Love the original of this one folks. I think you lot take, or have taken, far too many pills..............or maybe it's just me. ;-)"

Spin Science - "nice release again guys, ferrand's for me!"

Steve Mill - "top pack..my pick is the original mix..good one!!"

Steve Jones (Skin Deep) - "2 great tracks here the originals breakdown is awesome, reminds me of the old trance days! Excellent soothing production. Steve Ferrands done a wicked job of stripping original down to groovey warmer."

Subsky - "Both mixes are nice,  going to play steve ferrand mix for sure..great for warmups!"

Soundexile - "Original mix is deep as deep can be, with nice pulsating pads and loads of atmosphere, while the remix is more stripped and emphasizes the beat... perfect warm up material!  Seems Neil and Milton can do no wrong!"

Danny Graham - "This track is an awesome way to finish the year. The original is really easy on the ear and my favoured of the 2 mixes. Will be playing on my Proton show. Thanks for all the awesome music this year. Urban Torque have def been one of the best labels of 07."

Luckystars - "Tijuana (Steve Ferrand's Angeldust Remix) is Amazing !!!"

Glenn Morrison - "Absolutely fantastic release, I would go as far to say your best of the year.  The Ferrand mix does it for me, lush, warm house all the way"

Al Bradley (3AM Recordings) - "Quite superb, absolutely loved the Pacemaker Dub of 'Feedback From The City' & am right into that 'G-Platz' one on Audio Therapy too. You can hear the influence here, top deep & trippy house action all the way! I actually prefer Steve Ferrand's mix by a whisker, just has a bit more vibe i.m.o, although to be honest, choosing a favourite from these two is a bit like trying to choose between Scarlett Johansson & Jessica Biel.... You win either way...."

Strictly Rhythm is on fire this summer. As well as some classic compilation abums, this legendary label keeps providing quality house music singles. Todd Terry joint forces with a few old time friends like Kenny Dope, DJ Sneak, Terry Hunter and Tara McDonald for the release of this hot new track. "Get down" is a classic piece of vocal funky house, Terry provides a few versions in his classic house style, while Kenny Dope adds 3 powerful funky remixes, including a killer groovy dub. A powerful electronic infected version remixed by DJ Sneak is also included in the package.   8)

Crystal Method - 'VEGAS' (DELUXE EDITION)
Posted By: Chad Harnish on 2 August
Crystal Method -

Marking its 10th anniversary, Jordan and Kirkland have reassessed and readdressed the long-player that started it all with VEGAS (DELUXE EDITION), which will be released via Geffen/UMe on September 18.

For those weary of purchasing 'Vegas' again, this Deluxe Edition is quite a bit different. The first disk offers a fresh mastering of the original 10 tracks, while the second CD highlights a selection of rare and live recordings plus new mixes of classic 'Vegas' tracks from remixers such as MSTRKRFT, Hyper, Sta, Deadmau5, Koma & Bones, and many more.

In their decade-long career, THE CRYSTAL METHOD have sold over a million albums, scored a Grammy nomination and collaborated with everyone from Ozzy Osbourne to Scott Weiland to Ol' Dirty Bastard. They headlined the Hollywood Bowl, rocked Coachella and played a fashion show in Milan for Donatella Versace. Meanwhile, their songs appeared in countless video games, movies and television series. Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland, who are THE CRYSTAL METHOD, even spent a surreal night in the Los Angeles County Jail. But before any of that happened, they made Vegas, their debut album from 1997. Marking its 10th anniversary, Jordan and Kirkland have reassessed and readdressed the long-player that started it all with VEGAS (DELUXE EDITION), which will be released via Geffen/UMe on September 18.

The two-disc deluxe set offers a fresh mastering of the original ten songs on the first CD. The second CD highlights a selection of rare and live recordings plus new mixes of classic Vegas tracks from remixers personally chosen by the duo such as Paul Oakenfold, MSTRKRFT, Hyper, Sta, Deadmau5, Koma & Bones, Tom Real vs. The Rogue Element and Myagi. Also included is the original 1993 version of the Vegas single "Comin' Back" with the video for the album version along with the video for "Busy Child." Preceding the deluxe edition's release, "Busy Child" (Sta remix) will be available on iTunes as of August 28.

Vegas put the Las Vegas natives at the center of an electronic music scene previously occupied almost exclusively by trailblazing Brits such as Underworld, The Prodigy and Groove Armada. Inspired in equal parts by Jordan and Kirkland's late night outings in the early days of the Los Angeles rave scene and their reassuringly humdrum upbringing in the Las Vegas suburbs listening to everything from disco to hip hop to metal, Vegas is a different kind of techno record. It's got soul. "One thing people have been telling us for the past 10 years is that Vegas was the first thing to get them into electronic music," Jordan says. "We just came up with a sound that bridged the gap between alternative and electronic music."

01 - Hi Sergio, first question is simple, who is Sergio Flores and where are you from ?
Well, I am a completely addicted music junkie, DJ, producer and songwriter out of Vienna, Austria.

02 - You are an excellent producer and DJ too, do you feel yourself more producer/musician or DJ ?
I am glad I don't have to choose. I started of as a musician, because making music is a basic urge that I felt ever since I was a small child. But you tend to get crazy locked up in the studio, without having any feedback from anybody. I interact with the crowd and I need to feel their love, but then again I can't be without those lonely moments in the studio, so I can focus on my music. To cut a long story short, one complements the other.

03 - How did you get into music ? And what were your early musical influences?
Both of my parents are classically trained musicians. They are pianists and my father is actually a renowned professor here at the University of Music in Vienna. So I grew up with both, classical music and Brazilian rhythms, as my mother hails from Brazil. I guess when you are surrounded by so much musicality every day, the real question has to be, if I ever had a chance of actually NOT becoming a musician!! Apart from listening to classical music and samba, my parents made sure that I got in to the "better" side of popular music. So they made me listen to anything from Soul to Jazz and I am hooked on so called Black Music ever since.

04 - How did you begin producing music ?
I already noted earlier, that I come from a musical background and I remember making up tunes in my head ever since primary school. So the next step was only logical, I got myself some equipment, a computer (Commodore Amiga) and a synthesizer and started putting these ideas down. At first they were only sketches, but then I started refining them and I slowly got the hang of it, simply learning by doing.

05 - You done a lot of records and remixes, which is your favourite one ?
Puuuuhh.....you got me there! All of them have had their justification ad the time. But you make me feel like having to pick one of my children, while leaving the others behind. I guess Hana Hais "Rosa Nova" is one of the tunes that I owe a lot to. So there you have it.......I feel like a bad parent now.

06 - Let's speak of your last release "Hold on", how is the idea born ?
The basic idea came from Tokoto. He is a very successful DJ/producer in Japan and had a basic version of the tune (called "That Piano Track"), that I really liked. I then came up with the chanted hook-line and used some new instruments, while tweaking the piano a bit and adding my trademark beats. The instrumental did pretty well and I decided to write a whole song over it. So I wrote "Hold On".

07 - Any other relaese coming soon ?
A few remixes are coming up soon for Defected, Positiva and Hardsoul Pressings. I am also working on a lot of original material and collaborations with Danny Marquez, David Penn and Oliver Lang.

08 - You played in several clubs around the world. When did you get into Djing ?
I started DJing about10 years ago. I was already producing at the time and wanted to get out there with my music and see the reaction of the people. And I was hoping for some groupies as well, off course.......!

09 - Your best gig ?
That is another one of those questions I can't really answer. I had great gigs all over Europe, Japan, Dubai, etc. I had so many great parties, I can't just pick one. But wait......off course I can pick one: my birthday bash of 2006! I threw a playboy-themed private party and played along-side Danny Marquez.

10 - What kind of music do you like to play in your dj sets ?
I play various styles, as long as it has got that special something. I go from soulful to latin and deep to tribal and electronic. But I guess you can say I love anything that has got a percussive flava to it.

11 - The 5 hottest records in your box now ?
DJ Pippi & Danny Marquez "God Is Love" (KOKI and DM Mix),
Todd Terry Allstars "Get Down" (Kenny Dope)
Quazimodo "Give In" (Hardsoul)
Jamie Lewis "Unity" (Purple)
Martin Solveig "Cabo Prano" (Claude Monet)

12 - Where do you think house music is going ?
It is always hard to predict things like "what will be the next big thing in House", or, "will it continue to cross over into the charts". It is a vibrant and moving musical scene, so any moment things can change. As for styles: now it is summer, so everything is very percussive, just the way I like it. But I believe that soulful House well see a revival, if it hasn't already started. Electro will definitely keep strong this year, but I guess it has probably left its peak behind.

13 - What music do you listen at home or in your car ?
I listen to a lot of Jazz, Soul & Bossa Nova records. But I also have a few Rock, Hip-Hop and Rn'B records I love to listen to.

14 - Final famous question :-) Vinyl or digital ? And why ?
Concerning personal taste, I would always opt for vinyl, as it just sounds warmer (given that it's a good pressing) and it gives you something to relate to physically. But I have to admit, that lately I am only using CDs, merely for practical reasons. I get most of the stuff I play on digital media, long before it is even pressed on vinyl. But I don't see this as a black or white kind of question. I go for grey on this one.....!

Thank you Sergio, all the best !
