► about COPYRIGHT
http://www.myspace.com/copyrightproductions

"We play sounds with worldwide appeal. You can drop them from Portugal to Australia to Japan. It's soulful house music with a global vibe."

It's been a busy time for London based DJ/production duo Sam Holt and Gavin Mills – aka Copyright – since the release of their debut album 'Visions And Voices' last year. The album went on to be Traxsource's ALBUM OF THE YEAR and saw the boys tour the world supporting its release.

And there's to be no laurel-perching for Copyright in 2009. Along with Junior Jack, ATFC, the Shapeshifter and Simon Dunmore, they're to be Defected's Pacha Ibiza residents and have been selected to mix the Ibiza In The House 2009 album – one of Defected's biggest-selling albums and a taster of the sounds you'll hear at the label's Ibiza parties. The album also features a world first, live percussion on a mix album, courtesy of rhythm king Shovell.

Look out for the upcoming relaunch of Copyright Recordings later this year with tracks featuring Jocelyn Brown, Mr V and many more plus the boys' debut release entitled 'Ready or Not' on the legendary Strictly Rhythm label. Producing Strictly's hot new female vocalist Yasmeen, the track is a tough, dancefloor r'n'b number and is a glimpse of the versatility of Gavin and Sam's production ability. Here's hoping we get an eyeful in the months to come.

The international recognition they received from these releases culminated in Defected boss Simon Dunmore asking Copyright to mix the 2007 'Miami In The House' compilation. Distilling the Copyright sound while showcasing their mixing prowess and nose for what makes a great party, it went on to sell more than 30, 000 copies globally.

Then, in 2008 they truly jumped to the next level with the release of their debut album, 'Voices and Visions'. An assured collection of soulful house, classic song writing, with latin, afrobeat, disco, funk and tech influences, it featured outstanding vocal performances from a stellar cast of collaborators and propelled Copyright into the super league of global house players.

DIGITALISM
http://www.thedigitalism.com/
http://www.myspace.com/digitalism

There are loads of rock bands making music for the dancefloor. Digitalism make electronic music that everyone can rock to. For the past two years, they have been the go-to men for indie remixes, having reworked the Klaxons, The Test Icicles, Cut Copy and The Futureheads, to devastating effect.

Digitalism hail from Hamburg. Isi, the German born son of Turkish immigrants, met Jens, the child of a liberal family, at the city's Underground Solution record store. Jens Moelle was the first to find employment there, towards the end of the 1990s. When he took leave from the shop to devote more time to his school work, Isi filled. Later Jens returned, and the pair worked alongside each other: Jens in the shop, and Isi at the attendant record distribution business. They soon bonded over their shared love of dance and rock records.

When the store's owner, Ollie Grabowski, began casting around for a couple of fresh, young DJs to play at party, he suggested that Isi and Jens team up.

"We were of the same generation,â" explains Isi, "we liked the same records, so we were put in one room together."

Ever the innovators, the boys bought an adaptor for their first DJing gig, allowing them to plug two sets of headphones into one socket.

"So you could hear the same thing," explains Isi. "You never drop out of the groove,â" Jens confirms.

As the duo's DJing reputation took off, so the harder the pair worked to find obscure, unheard records to animate their crowds. In 2001, the price of CD writers dropped sufficiently to allow the boys to burn their own records.

"We stared with some edits," says Jens, "just for our DJ sets."

The first was a version of The White Stripes' Seven Nation Army. This eventually found its way onto vinyl and sold well, marking Digitalism out as electronic producers who could cross over into the rock camp. Its success also prompted the boys to put out another release. On their second record, they also included an original composition. The jagged, makeshift track, with its scrappy vocal hook ( "I Have An Idea That You Are Here, I Have The Idea That You Were Near"), called Idealistic.

The record was re-pressed, allowing everyone from Errol Alkan to Pete Tong to pick up a copy, yet it was Gildas Loaec from Kitsuné in Paris who eventually contacted the duo with a serious label deal.

"I knew the record had done well," says Isi, "I was distributing it, after all. Yet I was really happy to get the call from Gildas. We were the first album artist signing to Kitsune."

Digitalism initial release on the French label remains their best known: Zdarlight. The boys chose this peculiar spelling to distinguish the record from other "Starlight" titled tunes by everyone from Muse to Model 500.

They shouldn't have worried. The heavy dance tune, with its acidic undercarriage, lilting guitar line and stratospheric climax, is distinctive enough. It received strong support in 2005 from many including Soulwax, Tiga, Laurent Garnier, Blackstrobe, Tiefschwarz and The Glimmers, and remains a reliable club staple to this day.

Digitalism followed this release with Jupiter Room, another compelling electronic record that, despite its celestial overtones, was actually named after a sleazy bar in Montreal.

Their forthcoming album, entitled Idealism is, in Jens' words, "an attempt to reach out, and create structures," he explains, "but also this space aspect, you depart from earth to something new."

Yet the boys still love earthbound rock n' roll. Their reinterpretation of The Cure's Fire In Cairo, entitled Digitalism in Cairo, was one 2006's cult re-edits. They managed to clear this version for their album, setting the band's album apart from the usual 4/4 club bound albums. Listen to a track like Pogo or Apollo-Gize from their new LP. Their loose, heavily distorted, rough grooves and blankly delivered lyrics owe as much to Joy Division or The Associates as they do to Daft Punk and their contemporaries.

Any further doubts are laid to rest during their live shows. This summer, you're as likely to find them appearing live on the festival circuit as playing the clubs. As Sean McClusky, the legendary London rock club promoter, who booked the duo recently, puts it "Digitalism are as popular with indie kids as electro or techno clubbers."

Digitalism's own, ever-evolving gig set-up is becoming less like a porta-studio on stage, and more like a band set-up. This side of the band is set to grow even more this year. There has not been an electronic act with the potential to cross over on such a scale since Daft Punk and the Chemical Brothers. It's been a long wait!

The boys still record in a bunker. The building wouldn't look out of place in a dystopian film like 1984. Its thick concrete walls, blast doors and cell-like atmosphere suits the duo perfectly.

"We drink something, we have fun," says Isi, "we don't have any daylight, any distractions; I think maybe our sound come from the bunker atmosphere."

And though they're stuck deep inside, Digitalism are looking at the stars. Sorry, Zdars.

Dont miss DIGITALISM at BLOWFISH (Friday 2nd JULY 2010)

► about ROGER SANCHEZ
http://rogersanchez.com/
http://www.myspace.com/rogersanchez

Roger Sanchez, The S-Man, grammy-award winner, chart-topping producer and globally revered superstar DJ. The keystone of the "Release Yourself" concept, recognized and respected the world over for his compilation cds, club nights and a radio show across Europe and the US which reaches over 1.2 million listeners a week. The proud owner of 'Stealth Records', champion of hidden talent wherever he encounters it, and one of the most level headed players on the International dance scene. And, judging by his track record, the dynamo that has propelled the disco scene into the 21st century and beyond.

In '89 he first touched base with 'Strictly Rhythm' and under their guiding light he released 'Luv Dancin', his first club smash (as 'Underground Solution' ) less than a year later. Five years of hard work in the studio left the world with little doubt that the 'S-Man' - as he was becoming widely known – was far and away the most valuable asset on the 'Strictly Rhythm' label.

By '98 he was in The Movies, contributing to the soundtrack of 'Blade'. By March of the same year he had achieved an unprecedented 3 songs in the Billboard Top 25, all in the same week, and it was clear to everyone that Roger Sanchez had truly come of age.

The single 'Another Chance' became a huge club hit, reaching the coveted number one spot in July 2001.

When you take into account his breadth of experience as one of the planet's foremost house DJs coupled with his appetite for musical experimentation, the album was always going to be a gem. After so much production work for mainstream artists such as Soul II Soul, Michael and Janet Jackson, Diana Ross and more, the proverbial writing had been on the wall for a long time.

In 2003 his reworking of No Doubt's 'Hella Good' bagged Sanchez a well earned Grammy Award (Best Remix) – there had been nominations in years gone by, but to finally win a Grammy still came as a huge shock. To receive an award which traditionally encompasses the "main stream" side of the music industry for a dance track speaks volumes about exactly how far the man has pushed his genre , and has taken him from hotshot producer
to an ambassador of dance music.

► about DOM CHUNG

The infectious electronic house of Dom Chung has been captivating crowds from festival fields to clubs for almost ten years. A master of adaptability, Dom's eclectic and versatile sets are a showcase of impeccable mixing, and with a record collection to die for he has fast become one of the brightest lights in dance music.

The original Chibuku resident, Dom is one of the youngest people ever to do a Radio One guest mix at only 18 years old, having been asked personally by Seb Fontaine. Despite this early launch into the spotlight, however, Dom has a rare down to earth charisma that has stayed with him throughout his career. Off the back of his hugely successful Chibuku residency Dom was snapped up by the Ministry of Sound.

From warm-ups to peak-sets, under the sun and under-cover Dom has become one of the most popular and successful tours residents, playing in some of the world's most famous and exciting venues as well as hosting his very own Ministry of Sound "International" Radio show on prime time Saturday nights which has over half a million Listeners a month.
