the club scene in australia is just AWESOME, its very alive and well, and the people there shuffle like crazy (even in schools)

for those who havent experienced clubbing in sydney or melbourne its definitely an awesome experience~! so when ur around these cities dont forget to check out the clubs!! dont worry bout the koalas and kangaroos just head to the club straight away LoLZ

hmm.. walaupun gw bukan dj, but IMHO, blaming the new technology and the new generation, at least for me, is a somewhat regresive act..

man, we live here and now. These "kiddie DJ's" live here and now. Not back then. So what if people used mp3 these days? Does that means they're not entertaining?  Yg gw tau, yg penting jadi dj bukannya tehnik ini itu dan alat yg dipakainya ONLY. Isn't what comes out of the speakers and into our hearts through our ears that matters? Crappy dj's that used TT also exist you know.. so I don't think that the "art" would died because of these technology. Technology are created to better our life, although it can also make things worst, but it depends on the person who used it. It depends on HOW they use it, essentially. So I agree with you.. they just have to be EXTREMELY GOOD at whatever they're doing. No matter what they use.

Dan bukankah ketika permasalahan teknis seperti beatmatching etc sudah tidak menjadi masalah, dj "masa kini" ini jadi punya kesempatan untuk ngulik hal2 yang dulunya tidak mungkin? Who knows? Why don't we find out instead of blaming those who tried? Emang semua org MUSTI gitu ya punya plat dan TT.. huahuahu..mahal booook...

Soal mereka akhirnya jadi maen gratisan, gw rasa bukan mereka yg brengsek (siapa sih yg mau maen gratis? emang enak? Emang nyari2 track di net itu gampang? Dan apakah kalo donlod lagu dari net itu slalu artinya ngerip? pfft lets not generalize ). Lantas siapa yg brengsek? Ya yg gak mau bayar seharusnya kaliiiiiiii....  tuh.. org2 yg narik2 dj2 baru, yang maksa2 maen gratis dengan janji akan diorbitin, sharing profit, etc etc.. blame them! Blame venue2 dan EO yg rakus dan oportunis. Instead of creating a better scene, they turn it into a cheap, blatant product! FYI ini gak kejadian di scene DJ aja kok, it happens everywhere. DJ's, VJ's, MC's, semua.. it happens on every aspect of the scene.. why?

Because it sells..  and thus "they" profit..

I didnt blame the technology, i blame the PEOPLE who were ABUSING them

and i also blame the mentality of a lot of the newer djs who arent in it because they have a passion for it, some people become a dj for all the wrong reasons~ you should be in it primarily for the music aniways!

at the end if you're really good at what you're doing (whatever you use), you shouldnt have any problem getting more money from the promoter, coz if you're worth it (and if ur the guy bringing all the people in) theres no reason why they dont want you around

oh, and having a fanbase helps~  do what you gotta do, spawn friends on myspace and facebook, burn good looking mix CDs and give them to everyone you see etc, A DJ is a marketable thing u know? if you push your own name around hard, to the point that everyone knows your name and your work, then  promoters tend to bow down to you more

so yeah, rather than waste time whining about a never ending topic, lets all go back to our decks and practice those killer moves~ it will do us a lot better in the future

Memang jaman sekarang makin banyak DJ, karena fasilitas memungkinkan untuk jadi DJ lebih gampang

jaman dulu waktu gue baru mulai, CDJ belum di standarin, jadi either u play vinyl or you dont play...
this era is, in my opinion, a lot better than today because:

DJ's back then were REAL DJ's who spin records and spend so much time and effort in collecting these records!
personally gue dulu bangun pegi2 setiap hari senin and selasa di sydney, soalnya FRESH ARRIVAL OF VINYL
comes at those days, i wanted to be the first who browse through the new arrivals and buy the best stuffs...
This was the CORE of DJING back then, the performance on the decks was just as important as the time and effort you put PREPARING THE TUNES

intinya, jaman dulu waktu VINYLS and TECHNICS were the bread and butter of the ART of DJing, things were better, DJs were Dedicated artists who put some time and effort in CRAFTING their performances



These days anyone can just buy a cheap CDJ's, or buy SERATO, or even download ABLETON for free
from the internet and then RIPPING MP3's off the internet
basically these days anyone with a computer can be a DJ, the art is slowly gone...

Jaman sekarang, too many little kids act COOL and got the "HEY! IM A DJ! IM SO COOL" mentality
sedangkan mereka dont even  know how to CUE a ReCORd on a turntable! ITS SHOCKING!


jadi intinya, jaman sekarang its TOO EASY to be a dj

resulting --> too many little kids offering to play for free

promoters are money hungry people too, mereka mikir "HEY kalo gue bisa isi slot timenya gratis
why bother pay for it?"   makanya GLOBALLY, Even in australia, DJ's were getting less and less money for their gigs


SO.... is it still possible to earn your income SOLELY from DJING?

to be honest its HARD, most of the DJ's i know work a daytime job too, unless your PVD or Armin of course!

The only way to be a successful and well paid dj these days is to be EXTREMELY GOOD at it
(contohnya: EDDIE HALLIWELL, ada yang pernah liat dia manggung gak? OMFG!!!! THIS GUY IS INSANE ON THE DECKS!!!  Or... JAMES ZABIELA... insane SKILLS!)

or... you can try to become a PRODUCER other than just a DJ, coz it certainly HELPS carry your name in the scene

contoh: kalo elo produce a track good enough and be played by armin van buuren in his A STATE OF TRANCE
sets, THATS IT, YOUR NAME WILL BOOM in minutes!

intinya:  keep on crafting your skills, only with the proper skills that you can demand more payment from the promoters,  kita harus ada mentalitas gengsi,  contohnya: promoter mau ngebook elo as a dj, tapi dia
refuse to pay us a good money for our well earnt effort
what do we do? well we show the promoter how much we're worth and DONT BE AFRAID TO SAY NO
to the gigs, emang agak gila sih, tapi if you're really good, 99 percent of the time they will still book you!
