It would be hard right now to imagine house music without Defected Records. From a small office in Soho, the label has become a key player -perhaps even the key player- on the international dance music scene, attracting some of the greatest talents working in the industry, regularly trumping the majors with crossover hits and media attention, and never far from the boxes of the world's best DJs. In seven short years, the independent label has gone some way to achieving label boss Simon Dunmore's vision of an imprint worthy to stand aside the labels that inspired him, from Motown and Philly in the soul era to Strictly Rhythm.

The first release, Soulsearcher 'I Can't Get Enough' was launched on January 1st 1999 and augured well for the fledgling company's health, going to no.8 in the national charts, demonstrating Dunmore's astute judgement of the dance market, and subsequent releases consistently achieved respectable chart placings, with the early Defected discography reading like a roll call of club classics: Powerhouse feat. Duane Harden 'What You Need', MAW feat. India 'To Be In Love', Paul Johnson 'Get Get Down', Eddie Amador 'Rise', Bob Sinclar 'Feel For You', ATFC feat. Lisa Millett 'Bad Habit', Kings of Tomorrow 'Finally' and so on, culminating in a no.1 hit with Roger Sanchez 'Another Chance' in July 2001.

Whereas some labels may have started to rest on their laurels by now, this no.1 hit actually inspired some changes at Defected: 'We weren't able to celebrate that success as much as I would have liked,' says Simon, '...because Roger had so many other obligations. It was at this point that I realised that to really capitalise on a hit record you need to develop your artists "in-house". If you're there right at the beginning you've more chance of still being there when the artist makes it big.'

Subsequent signings like diverse artists/producers like Bob Sinclar, DJ Gregory, Junior Jack, Martin Solveig, Dubtribe Sound System and Sandy Rivera have all made unforgettable singles followed with well-received albums, proving Dunmore to be a man of his word.

The label recently reached the landmark 100th release, and Dunmore chose to honour his roots in soul music by choosing Blaze featuring Barbara Tucker 'Most Precious Love' for the occasion. 'It's so representative of what Defected is all about. Blaze are classic house producers who I've always admired but not had the opportunity to work with enough before. Barbara Tucker is a great house vocalist, and Dennis Ferrer who did the mix is the new kid on the block, keeping the label looking towards the future. I'm very proud of it.'

Defected's achievements have regularly been lauded in the press and by the dance music industry itself. Recent recognition has come with the awards of Best Label and Best International Event at the UK's House Music Awards, and Best Global Dance Label at the International House Music Awards. In 2005 Defected was again rewarded for Best Label for the second time, adding to best clubnight to the trophies sitting on the mantelpiece.

Defected now stands in an almost unique position for an independent dance label, with a globally recognised brand that's synonymous with quality for the discerning clubber, an unparallelled roster of production talent and an ongoing programme of artist development, and a pivotal role in shaping the tastes of the market. It looks like Defected will be in the house for some time to come!

Danny Marquez has spent most of his life involved in music. Just a few friends around him understood why he could be many hours at the turntables when he was just a teenager, while everyone was playing on the ground. The interest increased with the age and Danny got an excellent skill that took him to his firsts DJ sets in Clubs/Discotheques of Barcelona being so young. Since then, Danny has not stopped moving up on clubs and studios to build a way around the groove.

The style that Danny Marquez imprints to his sets and productions is simply House Music. Taking his main influences from the old school House producers at his early years, Danny has been seeking into different genres in House to find his own path without renouncing to what in his opinion is the most important in every style: the quality and the good vibe. Danny Marquez firmly believes in the support of music written and interpreted by "real" musicians. To say that he is near Afro, Deep and Soulful House is not a mistake but only an approach. The best way to feel and share the vibe he creates is on the dance floor. No doubt about it. But there is an excellent alternative to meet his style: his productions through the label he has created and grown up: Bubble Soul Music.
With multiple productions and remixes in his career, where is due to highlight Danny Marquez & Ferry B. Danny has also compiled and mixed only the finest in Danny Marquez "Handle with Care" (Bubble Soul Music), Miami The Conference 2005 & 2004 (Metropol Records), Link Dubai (2006 Bubble Soul Music), Yes Please! (2007 Atal Music / GoGo Music / Bubble Soul Music) among others, all CD compilations where he has indeed reproduced his style.
As a DJ, Danny started playing in Barcelona to become some years later to be a point of reference in Ibiza, where he has established his residence for so many years during the summer season. The most important clubs with no exception in the white island have enjoyed his sets. Personal talent added to the experience caught for years of playing in big, standard and underground clubs is for Danny a big value to connect with people on the dance floor. Lately, that musical "baggage" let him to travel around the world and play in many different countries with guarantee of success. This is what Danny Marquez is actually doing: He combines the musical production, the management of Bubble Soul Music and his gigs in many different points of the globe. All result of hard work, talent and an emphatic mood behind his Love to House Music.

DJ Gregory is one super-cool player, highly intelligent, passionate about music and more than a little bit crazy, this producer holds great respect from all heavy hitters in the dance music community.

His DJ sets are unmissable and he has an army of fans that follow him wherever he performs. Never selling out and always wary of commercial crossovers this is a person who has absorbed all the various cultures around him and reproduced them in his highly individual House sound. From Paris, to New York, London and Tokyo, he travelled the globe to hone his production and DJ techniques and absorbed everything that House had to offer.

He has been regarded as the king of the afro beat scene with his highly percussive tracks that feature many African, West Indian and Caribbean flavours. His biggest production 'Elle' has touched every house DJ that has heard it and became an instant classic. It is a permanent fixture in most of their record boxes.

Gregory was one of the first pioneering house producers that was invited by Bob Sinclar to become part of the legendary Africanism project; a project that embraced the percussive riffs and flavour of Africa and translated them into energetic house tracks.

Today after faultless progression DJ Gregory is known as one of the best French house music producers who's understanding of rhythm and perfectionism command respect worldwide. He has never been associated with the etiquette of the French touche sound but he has been able wiggle his way through that whole set up. With perseverance and by perfecting his art and by also staying true his loved music which is soulful and sexy away from the trends. Which means by being stubborn and faithful to your boundless love for music this will end up paying dividends.

People love Charles. DJs love him for making their jobs easier...producers love him for the inspiration he provides...his loyal fanbase love him because they can trust him to deliver time & again. Twenty odd years in the game and Charles has the RESPECT of several generations of music lovers.

For the past 20 years, Charles Webster has been a consistent and prolific force in dance and electronic music. Best known for his releases under various monikers (including Furry Phreaks, Presence, Love From San Francisco, and his own name), masterful collaborations with Terra Deva, Tracey Thorn and Robert Owens, vital remixes for artists like Herbert, Slope, Fish Go Deep, Justin Martin, Groove Armada.

Charles has become synonymous with sumptuous deep house grooves, intoxicating soulful vocals and heady downtempo soundscapes that are a testament to his skillful and continually evolving palette.

Keynote remixes for the likes of Dr Rockit (Charles's remix of Café de Flore by this Matthew Herbert pseudonym must be one of the most licensed mixes ever) and Groove Armada ('At The River') saw Charles conquer the ever-growing chill out market much as he had with the deep house one, and helped pave the way for his first album under his own name, 'Born On The 24th July', released in 2002 to universal acclaim and was selected as the #2 best essential dance records since 2000 by iDJ Magazine (June 2008).

2007 and Charles Webster just can't stop. His latest Furry Phreaks creation 'All Over The World' with Terra Deva is set for a major release via Defected; a definitive and long-overdue Webster compilation, also on Defected; he is producing luminaries such as Tracy Thorn and Robert Owens; and the global dj'ing continues. And we haven't even mentioned his internationally syndicated radio shows; the number of quality compilations still falling over themselves to feature his work (old & new).

There´s no doubt that Micha Moor is one of Germanys rising shoting stars. His final breakthrough was the consequence of living a musician life since he was a kid. With miscellaneous loops and acappellas he often spontaneously creates new remixes of well-known pieces while performing live as a DJ. After various resident DJ jobs he now spins the wheels at different renowned German and international clubs mesmerizing the crowds with his mixing-skills.

His first hit »Slip & Slide« was released in February 2006 by Scream & Shout Rec. It quickly found its place on the playlists of recognized DJ´, entered the German dance charts and continued to stay on for several weeks. For some time now Micha Moor has been producing and remixing electronic house-tunes in cooperation with his studio-partner Klaas. Since their latest remix of the legendary Dr. Kucho hit »Can´t stop playing« they have undeniably become popular with the German house scene. Further remixes of Jens Lissat´s »Young and beautiful« and of Dualton »Papercut« followed...

His brand new summer-single "Space" has top all of his previously released hits. The track has been played in the sets of many world's top DJs in Ibiza for several weeks now and he added a huge electro remix for his own single. It reached No.1 chart-positions in Beatport and a major hit in DJ MAG and the German Dance Charts conclude a great future...

Karizma's musical career started with him djing at age 13, doing various fashion shows and college parties, later on he landed a radio show on Baltimore's college radio station WEAA, playing hip hop. At the same time he was playing at various clubs around the city,with an obvious love for house music. He would often bump into Dj Spen and bug him for advice.

As fate would have it Spen and Karizma would work together at radio station V103. This prompted the two to work together on his 1st Jasper street company album project. Karizma contributed the song E.B.W.2.R.T.W (Everybody Wants 2 Rule the World) and did drum programming on the track "Temptation". After this Spen & Karizma worked on Kim English "Tommorrow", Mary J Blige "Beautiful", Kenny Bobien "Let me show you" and SuSu Bobien's "Thank you". The rest is history.

Spen and Karizma (now with Basement Boys productions), went on to remix Everything But The Girl, Amira, Lenny Kravitz, Ann Nesby, Ron Carroll, Bob Sinclar, Kathy Brown, Jocelyn Brown, Ministers de la funk, just to name a few. It was also in these remixes Karizma developed the "deepah dubs" and "deepah ones" moniker for his rendition of the remixes.

Flashing forward ...after a healthy career of remixes and productions, Karizma struck out on his own a formed Kohesive Productions. His first production "Samma Ganni" was released on Basement boys imprint "Elphunk. Many of his productions have been championed the likes of Louie Vega, Simon Dunmore, Dj Spinna, Marquis Wyatt, Tony Humphries and many more. Karizma is also an accomplished international dj, one of the most innovative on the scene.
