RANK 1 Introduction: They're one of Europe's most established, respected dance acts, having been catapulted to stardom by their debut release 'Airwave'. In the 9 years that have followed they've continued to pack out the CD wallets of world's A-list spinners with speaker-spankers that have included 'Such is Life', 'Symfo' and 'Life Less Ordinary'... In 2009 they unleashed 'L.E.D. There Be Light' - a track that was quickly snapped up by ID&T as the anthem for that year's Trance Energy event. Their Live and DJ sets induce floor-quakes before thousands of fans at clubs, arenas and festivals every single weekend. They are Piet Bervoets & Benno de Goeij... and they're Rank 1. Rank 1's Year One - 'Airwave': After a chance introduction at a party in the spring of 1997, Benno & Piet recognised much common musical ground and decided to work together. As the Dutch trance dawn rose up over Europe, the pair found themselves faultlessly positioned at its epicentre to reign. Championed by fellow fast-risers Armin van Buuren, Tiësto and Ferry Corsten, in 1999 the stadium-sized sound of 'Airwave' sent out an audio shockwave across the continent. It proved to be such a hit that just 12 months later 'Airwave' had been released, incredibly, in over 40 countries – jumping into the Top 10 in the UK and becoming the first Dutch track to top the European Dance Chart. The Rank 1 Remixes: Rank 1 also has an estimable remix-o-graphy to their name. Freddie Mercury, Ferry Corsten, Push, Cygnus X, Delirium, Marcel Woods, Mr Sam, Ronald van Gelderen, Angelic and Ayumi Hamasaki have all been given Rank 1's studio re-touch. Piet the DJ, Benno the Producer: Rank 1 now has two distinct branches to its operation. Benno is in charge of all the Rank 1's production elements. He co-produced many of the tracks on Armin van Buuren's 2008 long-player 'Imagine' and has already commenced work on the next one. Piet meanwhile takes the role of the globetrotting DJ, spinning at tent-pole events like Dance Valley in his native Holland and numerous international tours (including the US and Australasia) for the likes of Gatecrasher & Godskitchen. In 2009 Rank 1 found themselves re-entering the DJ Magazine Top 100 at No.77. Rank 1 – The Mindset: When it comes to interviews, Benno & Piet are, in essence the 'Daft Punk' or trance! Now famously reclusive, they don't like the term 'success' as it implies they have already arrived. Instead, on the few occasions they do speak, they prefer to speak in terms of 'progression' & 'perfection'. Ultimately though they are far happier to let their music do all the talking. TOCADISCO After 15 years of being a professional DJ, over 60 international remixes, one album and more than ten successful singles in his pocket the multi-instrumentalist and award winning super producer Tocadisco looks into a bright future. There is no other producer and DJ in the international dance scene today that has proven his talent in so many different musical ways. Be it remixing artists like Moby, Tiga and New Order or writing successful singles with David Guetta or Fisherspooner. No other artists' music was played by the biggest names of underground club music and has also been used for commercial tv advertising!!! In 2008 Tocadisco released his first artist album "SOLO", wrote a song on David Guetta's album "Pop Life" and achieved an MTV Award for "Best International Dance 2008". In 2009 there will be a new Tocadisco album released! Tocadisco has already traveled the globe a lot of times and in 2009 his world tour will take him to Australia, Brazil, USA, Canada, Mexico and of course everywhere in Europe. DJ SHAH / ROGER SHAH Intro: On stage, clad in his trademark white, he is impossible to miss or mistake. Wireless keyboard in one hand, an ever-ready clutch of his own productions in the other, his live crowd-interactive performances have brought a new apex experience for club and festival goers worldwide. In 2009 this unequalled approach was reflected in DJ Magazine's Top 100 chart, where he moved up from his '08 debut position of no.58 to no.21. As a music producer he's scaled the heights of national charts and with 5 artist albums & compilations released in the last 2 years alone, he is very possibly the most prolific trance musician working today. His name is Roger Shah... Early History: Born in Esslingen in southern Germany, Roger first began to hit his production stride in his native country in 1999 putting out the tracks 'Claps', 'The Mission' & 'Tides of Time'. In 2003 his 'High' release was signed by Virgin Records imprint Nebula. This marked his first non-domestic release and over the course of the next 5 years he inked productions to a range of heavy-hitting trance labels - ones that came to include Anjunabeats, VANDIT & Black Hole. The Armin Connection: In 2007 Armin named Shah's 'Who Will Find Me' release as his favourite track of 2007. Having heard the demo of its follow up, Van Buuren saw massive crossover potential in the track and made contact in early 2008 to ask if Shah would like to collaborate on it. The result was the Chris Jones song 'Going Wrong'... A national top 5 smash in The Netherlands, the track went on to become one of the biggest selling trance singles of the year. From there Magic Island Records – Shah's primary label moved from his own stable to that of one of Armin's industry-leading Armada Music. Magic Island Records: An imprint for both Roger's own material and that of likeminded producers, Magic Island releases have quickly become fixtures in the CDJs of the world's biggest spinners. 'Songbook': The M.I. deal's quickest produce of the Magic Island/Armada deal was Roger's first artist album, 'Songbook'. Hugely received by both press and fans alike, it was much praised for its innovative dual club mix and acoustic version approach. Singles taken from it like 'Don't Wake Me Up' and the aforementioned 'Going Wrong' & 'Who Will Find Me' (a Top 20 ASOT Tune of the Year in '08) proved to be particularly popular. Live & DJ Performances: In late 2008 Shah took the decision to change his artist name. Dropping the 'DJ' prefix, he revised it to Roger Shah – a move that signalled a move away from straightforward DJ sets. His successive live-on-stage more concert themed ones have brought a sea change to how trance music is presented to an audience. Many countries around the world have already born witness to this, among them Mexico, Australia, Ibiza, Argentina, Ukraine, Poland, & India, with Roger performing at tent-pole events including the ASOT400, I Love Kiev, Gatecrasher's NYE & Judgement Sundays. Pseudonyms & Side Projects: In addition to his own-name tracks, Roger has also produced under a matrix of other sun-tipped aliases. Notable among them are his 'aka' DJ Shah, High Noon at Salinas, Magic Island & Savannah. Shah is also one half of the Anjunabeats released act Purple Moods, Black Hole project Global Experience and ASOT's Black Pearl, whose '06 – '09 spanning singles 'Coral Sea', 'Java', 'Bounty Island' and 'Rise' generated much additional interest in Shah's solo productions. Sunlounger: Sunlounger is without a doubt Roger's best known nom de plume. It was under this handle that he released the 'Another Day on The Terrace' long-player in 2008. It reached No.1 on Dutch iTunes' 'all-music-genres' chart and spawned four singles: 'In & Out', 'Aguas Blancas', 'Crawling' & 'White Sand'. The project become so celebrated that Roger expanded Sunlounger into a live act - a performance of which was featured on Armada's ArminOnly DVD. It was this experience that he credited with his latter wholesale move into live Roger Shah performances. In 2009 Roger released the Sunlounger follow-up 'Sunny Tales'. Its progeny singles included 'Catwalk', 'Mediterranean Flower', 'Change Your Mind' and the much-revered 'Lost' - a track that took the illustrious Single of the 2008 title on the A State of Trance radio show.. 'Magic Island: Music For Balearic People' – The Compilations: Roger's compilation series has so far seen two outings (2007 & 2008) with a third outing slated for Q2 2010. Encapsulating everything Roger stands for musically, their intrinsically White Island trance sound has sound-tracked an uncountable number of clubbers holidays. Roger typically uses the compilations as first-listen holders for future singles & collaborations with Vol.2 including hook-ups with Signum, Judge Jules & Amanda O'Riordan and Tenishia. 'Magic Island: Music For Balearic People' – The Radio Show: Broadcasting weekly, Magic Island – Music For Balearic People is a 2 hour radio show carried by the famous DI-fm station and is currently being syndicated to many other countries, most recently including Mexico and Jordan. Presented by Roger every Friday between 21.00 GMT (22:00 CET), it showcases him playing melodic trance through the first hour with the 2nd focusing on Balearic, chillout and Dream trance. Remixes: Shah has reworked tracks for legendary vocalists like Sarah McLachlan and Nadia Ali. He's also remixed tunes for a litany of trance-masters including Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren, Mark Norman, York, Cosmic Gate, Josh Gabriel, System F, The Thrillseekers, Solarstone, Three Drives, Johan Gielen, Matt Darey & Oceanlab. Most recently Roger has rewired Andain's 'Beautiful Things '10' and Richard Durand's 'Always The Sun'. Roger Shah & Signum - Healesville Sanctuary (Official Music Video) DJ Shah Feat. FELIX DA HOUSECAT FELIX DA HOUSECAT – HE WAS KING "This is my electronic pop record," preens Felix Da Housecat, midway through a world tour to promote his latest album He Was King. "Whereas Kittenz & The Glitz was straight up electro, He Was King is straight Felix Da Housecat pop with a nice electronic feel." Packed with club smashes like 'KickDrum' and future synth-pop classics such as 'We All Wanna Be Prince' and 'Spank You Very Much', his tenth album is arguably his most concise, complete work since Kittenz & The Glitz ripped up the electro rulebook back in 2001. But right now, Felix is all about the present and 2009 is a big year for Felix Stallings. Not only is he about to release his tenth - and quite possibly best - album, he's also just graced the cover of club bible Mixmag with hip-hop maestro Sean 'Diddy' Combs. That's because back in March, he headlined Mixmag's Main Event 2 at Cameo alongside DJ buddies Simian Mobile Disco, A Trak, Junior Sanchez and DJ Mehdi. "That party was surreal to me. I normally drink more than a couple of shots of tequila and couldn't get buzzed because the party was so surreal. The party was the buzz! I was so LOCKED IN, as Puff would say. He said I played with confidence, that I didn't give a FCUK and that I was downright disrespectful. I was so focused! But that whole day was a party. I did 4 parties in 24 hours and was still standing at the end." Those close to him know that he's had a tumultuous couple of years but 09 promises to be his best yet, both professionally and personally. "I totally agree. When I did Virgo Blacktro I got tired of doing the same electro/electro-clash sound: I wanted to do something different and get my passion back. People liked it but what they wanted was more 'Ready To Wear' and 'Silver Screen'. So now, I've come back with 'KickDrum'." Already endorsed by Soulwax, Boys Noize and Erol Alkan, it's the Felix-flavored club smash we've all been waiting for. It's a volte-face, sure: Virgo was an r 'n' b-style electro LP overseen by Atlanta producer Dallas Austin and made for the heart, whereas He Was King is for the heart AND floor. Ever the workaholic, Felix maintains that he never actually went anywhere. "Totally! My whole thing is I never went anywhere," he nods. Now I'm doing what I want to do, I've gone full circle and I am at peace." But he does admit to being stumped by the reaction to Virgo. "I had just moved to Atlanta and was still all over the place. I wanted to do something different but my life was chaotic. This was my experimental album, my 'Lovesexy'." Ever the Prince fan, he considers his simile. "Well, it was either my 'Lovesexy' or my 'Around The World'. After Prince came with 'Purple Rain', he followed it with 'Around The World' and everyone was pissed off 'cos they wanted another 'PR.' But I'm glad I did it because it made me more hungry!" So the new album sees a more fresh, focused Felix return to the fray. A better mindset, stronger songs and a desire to take on the world again. "My mentality and attitude was the same as when I made Kittenz and The Glitz. We're all thieves – I do it too – but I got tired of people questioning my edge. I guess I got comfortable and just thought everything would slam. You do have to think about the radio, the people, the fans and yourself but it was so humbling that I did that record and people weren't ready for it." He Was King is a title that leaves nothing to the imagination – and the record inside is a stately sixty-minute adventure in electro-stereo. "This is my 'Parade' or my '1999'," he giggles. "When I heard 'Parade' I was like 'maaaan! It was like Prince but a different kind of Prince. And this time, the record is more campy. I went back to the silliness. I wanted this to be more fun." 'We All Wanna Be Prince' is pure perfection – indeed, it's his best since 'Ready To Wear' and a record only Stallings could concoct. "That's a good comparison," he smiles. "It's sort of like a tribute but it's sort of not - I didn't want to insult Prince! Every lyric on that record is from a Prince song. It was a last minute thing and [engineer] BC was working on a song and it was just a kick and I heard a stab and I said it sounds like something Prince would make." The song is great because it sounds so simple: but the creation was canny to say the least – and they took their cue from Rogers Nelson himself. "Like Prince, we slowed my voice down, recorded me half speed through the computer and then sped me up. I sang it slow like 'Erotic City' and we were cracking up. Then I played [guest singer] Nesh some Wendy and Lisa and I brought her in and out of the track. It was a joke but then when the track was done, we realized we really had something!" Nesh, it transpires, is Felix's secret weapon. "I met Nesh through Dallas two years ago," he explains. "She was in a girl band called Red, they were a knock off of the Spice Girls. They toured with Alexander O'Neal and Bryan Adams. She was doing law when we met..." They've been inseparable since. "Every album I try to do it different, I wanted a dreamy side to it... like a Wendy and Lisa. I wanted to bring a high-pitched dreamy voice to it - the higher the pitch, the more twisted and campy the album would be. And we were just hanging out – and then I said – let's try this out. I needed a female voice and I learned in my career, every time I work with females, the songs come out more successful." Suddenly we hear an English voice singing sweetly in the distance. "Sexual choc-o-late!" The signature song from 'Coming To America' never sounded so apt. HE WAS KING - Track by Track quotes from Felix. 1. We All Wanna Be Prince "Every lyric on that record is from a Prince song. I'm sure Prince is going to hear this! " 2. Plastik Fantastik "Straight up sexy" 3. KickDrum "You know this one!" 4. Do We Move Your World "Very Human League inspired, my straight up 80s tribute" 5. We "great interlude" 6. Spank You Very Much "A much slower version of xes Shooter" 7. Do Not Try This At Home "This has a Tom Tom Club type vibe!" 8. Turn Me On A Summer Smile "Quentin Tarantino style live bass, live guitar and spooky keyboards!" 9. Elvi$ "2manydjs and Erol have been hammering this" 10. LA Ravers "This is the whole chopped up 'Tweak' vibe" 11. Machine "This is like those Russian girls Tatu! That's my other electro pop moment. The one to make you smile!" 12. He Was King "This is my new 'Pray For a Star' and that's a BIG STATEMENT because that's the favorite song I ever made. This is right up there!" HE WAS KING IS OUT NOW Felix Da Housecat 'Like Something 4 Porno" Felix Da Housecat and Nina Simone - Sinnerman Felix Da Housecat - We All Wanna Be Prince #84

The phenomenal ATB on Gatecrasher guyz!!! ATB About ATB (Andre Tanne Berger) It seems hard to believe, but a decade has passed since ATB made waves with his "Movin Melodies" album. 10 years in which André Tanneberger travelled the globe over and over, mesmerizing his fans all over the world with his unique DJ sets. A decade in which ATB presented eight albums – including the newest ATB LP "Future Memories", set for May release – to lighten up our days and nights with exquisite electronic music, melodic yet pulsating. The new CD is more eagerly anticipated than ever – with good reason. Breaking the rule of an album every year, "Future Memories" was two years in the making. This was not necessarily the original plan, but the sheer number of international ATB gigs and tours simply did not allow a timeframe to record an album in a concentrated period of a few months. So it was that, on returning from each tour during the last two years, a new track was born, reflecting the impressions and experiences on the road and on stage. "Two years might sound like a long time to produce an album. But I spent roughly the same amount of time on "Future Memories" as on my previous LPs", André explains. The methodology was different this time around, however. "Unlike the last album, which was very much based on classic songwriting and real instruments, "Future Memories" has more of a focus on keyboards and synthesizers again. I wanted to get back to my roots in electronic sounds," ATB continues. Of course, both André Tanneberger and his music have developed further, adding new, refined touches to the classic ATB sound. Tempo is of the essence on the new recordings, raising the bar higher than ever for a trance album. Hence "Future Memories" features four tracks which clock in at over 165 beats per minute. Anyone who thinks this signals a departure into hardcore or techno by ATB would be mistaken. In spite of their high speed, these songs still have that essential ATB soul. Meanwhile, "Future Memories" also serves up a number of ATB tracks as the fans know and love them – indeed the sound which has won ATB so many loyal fans over the years. The tracks registering over 165 bpm are there to get people to think more deeply about the album, as André explains "controversy makes it more interesting, it gets listeners to engage with the album more intensely". He's certainly achieved that with flying colours, judging by the heated debate in forums in advance of the release already. "Future Memories" contains 26 tracks on two CDs. One with driving, melodic club music, the other in a more ambient style. "On my other albums I used the 2nd CD to show my fans another side of ATB. Same again with "Future Memories". I love ambient music, love listening to it and producing songs in the genre, I find it enjoyable and relaxing. Most of these songs were created at home in a more intimate environment" ATB points out. It goes without saying that André has collaborated with other artists for the new album. This has been one of his trademarks over the past decade. This time, there are songs with Roberta Carter Harrison, Haley and Josh Gallahan, no strangers to connoisseurs of earlier ATB records. Betsy Larkin and Aruna are two brand new guests on the album. Fans of ATB's instrumental tracks will also find plenty to keep them happy. Sightings of André in Germany over the last couple of years have been few and far between. As electronic music grows into an increasingly global phenomenon, ATB has been travelling to a dfferent country almost every week. Fans in his home territory could be forgiven for thinking that ATB had gone quiet. In fact, the opposite is the case. André is one of a very select group of musicians in the genre to have succeeded in creating timeless music. Without doubt he belongs to the elite of the global electronic community. One only needs to look at his releases and chart history to realise this – not to mention the fact that his DJ sets are in such great demand among the clubs and fans alike. In spite of his global success, André has kept both feet firmly on the ground and has never lost sight of his fans being the prime focus of his attention. International travel means less time for his followers in respective countries, but he is always willing to give them something back. With this in mind, he created the ATB "Live In Concert" experience, a live event which transcends the DJ set framework, a fully-fledged concert presentation featuring live vocals and real instruments. "In contrast to my DJ sets, where I use a lot of material by other artists, ATB In Concert is all about my own songs " André explains. "This is my way of offering the fans who have stuck with me over the last ten years a dedicated ATB live show from start to finish." Seven such concerts are scheduled for 2009. ,,Future Memories" also includes a new version of André Tanneberger's worldwide hit "9 P.M. – Till I Come". Not in any way a sign of commercial sell-out, much more a consequence of ATB having played the track at almost every gig in the past ten years. "9 P.M. was a must for my fans. They expected, even demanded it – and I was happy to oblige" he says. He always endeavoured to play mixes of the song which no other DJ had. "I now wanted to have a new version of 9 P.M. to play in my sets, which nobody else could play. I didn't expect the reaction of the fans at the gigs to be so overwhelming. Which is why I have added a mix of the new version as a bonus on "Future Memories" – as a way of saying thank you to the fans."
