DJ SPEN & MANSION CLUB APOLOGY

We are very sorry to announce the cancellation of DJ Spens appearance at Mansion. This is due to bad weather between Washington DC & JFK which meant that DJ Spens flight was delayed for more than two hours which in turn caused him to miss his connecting flight from JFK to JAKARTA.

DJ Spen is very upset about this situation as he was really excited about his gig at the opening night of Mansion as he has heard so many great things about the club.

We are hoping that a new date can be organised ASAP & Spen will come & rock the house for all his disappointed fans
Once again are sincerest apologies.

In addition we already got replacement for DJ Spen
All the way from Zouk Singapore to perform at Mansion Club Grand Opening Party

DJ B
Pinning down djB's (Zouk's house stalwart) style is as easy as finding pearls in oysters. But one thing you'll find for sure is his innate ability to build a scorcher of a set with his arsenal of exhilarating and sweat-inducing gems. Always one to push the house sound to a whole new level, it's no wonder he's been cited by Martin Solveig & DJ Gregory as the best house DJ in Asia at the junction Bali press conference 2005. From Japan (Womb) to Ibiza (Pacha), Berlin (Cookies) to Miami (Opium Garden) djB's never failed to get happy House-heads wet, willing and wild. Even House heavyweights like Roger Sanchez, Jay J, Feddy Le Grand, Claude Monnet & others have played out djB's productions released under labels like soulfulric/ LookAtYou/ Mapdance to euphoric effect, you know you'll be in for a wild ride with djB.

DJ SPEN

When they said 'Get busy', they could have been referring to DJ Spen. Down the line from sunny San Francisco, he fills us in on his hectic schedule. "I'm in the studio working with Mark Evans and Barbara Tucker on the new single 'We Are'. Just finished a Hustle Music project – real gospelly – and a Groove Junkies remix on a song called 'Oh Lord'." It's second nature to a man who's been hard at his turntables since the tender age of 13. But would he say gospel is his first love?

Spen, whose career spans two decades, was front row centre at the birth of hip hop in the early Eighties. "The hip hop thing – it was something new that came around. You turned on the radio at that time, '79, '80, and you were bound to hear it. I mean, shoot, the first hip hop record I ever bought was 'Rapper's Delight' by the Sugarhill Gang, not long after it came out! I would turn on the radio and it would be Parliament, Funkadelic and the Rufus and Chaka Khan album, that was real big. It was an interesting period." It spoke to the young Spen loud and clear. "As a young kid hip hop was fresh – it was a voice that really spoke to me going through my teenage years and early adulthood. It's really attractive at that time. The gospel thing was always there, it never really left."

On to the present – Spen's newest love as of 2004 is Code Red Recordings, the label he runs with his partner in crime and fellow MuthaFunka Gary Deane. "He had a studio opportunity for me after I left Basement Boys – at the time I was going to get a regular 9 to 5. It seemed like one of my last ditch efforts to try and make this happen. I tried it out, and it took a minute, but it ended up working." Working it is, with the likes of Ultra Nate, Jada, Marc Evans, Anne Nesby and Karizma adding their flavour to the pot. And it saved him from getting a proper job, too. "Pretty much," Spen agrees, "at least for now!"

Code Red has gone onto releaing some of soulful houses most sought after gems. With DJ Spen & Thommy Davis presents Terry Thompson feat. Lisa Mack 'Shine' which has captured the vibe of 95-96 whilst keeping the whole dance floor appeal very current. Also DJ Spen feat Ann Nesby – It's So easy. Possibly one of the most supported track at the 07 WMC amongst the soulful dons and already Code Red's 10th release.

THE MARTINEZ BROTHERS

Crank up the computer and Google "the Martinez Brothers," and you'll be directed to chatrooms containing comments like "Oh my god, can these two fucking rock the house" and "They can mix their asses off"—not to mention postings along the lines of "They are the cutest ever." Such accolades would be impressive for any DJ, considering the backbiting that is the norm in the online dance-music community, but when you realize that the subjects of those notices, Steve and Chris Martinez, are still in their teens, it's remarkable. And considering that the Bronx-born and -raised sibs are working in the world of traditional, NYC-style soulful house—a scene generally populated by relative graybeards—it's downright mind-boggling

Steve and Chris's musicality is evident in their DJ sets, which tend to combine electronic "techie" tracks with more traditional NY flavored deep, vocal house and classics. Their sets are frequently augmented by the brothers' own instrumental work as was the case at both Shelter and to a greater extent 718 Sessions. "Some of the time, my brother will be on the keys and I'll be on the decks, and some of the time I'll be on the keys and he'll be on the decks," Chris says.

Despite (or maybe because of) the Martinez Brothers' talent, there are bound to be some who question the duo's grounding in the traditional house scene. "There have been a few people who have had a kind of attitude, like, 'What could these guys know about this music? How can they know about the Garage?'" Steve says. "It's kind of oxymoronic: They say there aren't enough young people involved with this kind of music, but when they see some young kids doing it, they complain. It's not our fault that we were born after the Garage closed! For the most part, though, people really show us a lot of love."
Supporter #1 of the TMB mission is Dennis Ferrer, whose Objektivity label provides the outlet for their productions. Ferrer currently has them studying the A's and B's of engineering and production and their debut production "My Rendition" which is more on the techie side of things dropped heavy on Objektivity last December. They plan on keeping their palette of musical references as open as possible though and plan on recording a vocal record next.

The other man who has been showing the love is old pro Danny Krivit who recently invited them to play at his hugely successful NYC shindig 718 Sessions at Club Deep in NYC. "I feel like they're touching upon all the history this music has, as opposed to most kids, who are just into this momentary, what's-happening-now kind of thing," he says. "For them to grasp on to such a wide variety of music at their age is quite unique—and I think it bodes well for this scene's future."

Long live TMB and the future of New York house music.

Chris and Steve Martinez are two of the youngest people in house music, but they've already scored one genuine club hit ('My Rendition'), wowed crowds at the Winter Music Conference and earned rave reviews for their energetic DJ sets as far afield as France. Some might call them a gimmick, the Hanson of house, but these cynics would be dead wrong: there is plenty of substance and talent to back up the novelty value of TMB.

And they are coming to rock the floor only @Mansion Club Bandung  *tepuktangan*

"House music DJs The Martinez Brothers are only in their teens – but they have already rocked Paris and are scheduled to play Italy and Spain later this month. Bronx-born Chris and Steve – 15 and 18, respectively – instantly fell in love with house music when their father introduced them to the genre's classic mid-nineties sound. Though not yet out of high school, the two have been mastering mixology and commanding respect from all corners, playing at hip NY clubs like Shelter and 718 Sessions.
The Martinez Brothers also host a weekly radio program, Nurtured Soul Sessions, on Pre Party Radio and have already released their first 12" on Objektivity records. Chris and Steve – who have to get good grades before their parents allow them to spin – may well become the next MASTER AT WORK."
