ANDY C

Regarded as one of the greatest DJs ever to touch a turntable, the Ram Records founder has relentlessly dedicated almost two decades of his life to the music he loves, flying across the globe week in, week out, to demonstrate a mastery of craft that has earnt him a status as one of the most iconic and important figures in global dance music culture.
Much more than just a DJ, Andy C is a true figurehead for the drum & bass movement, within which he has been an instrumental player since its very beginnings; his DJ sets and own seminal productions helping to evolve the genre through the many stages of its evolution. Andy’s dedication to dance music is only matched by his list of achievements, and his is a journey that has taken him from sneaking into raves in barns as a 13 year old, to the glamorous terraces of Space in Ibiza and being invited to speak at Oxford University.
Ram’s third release, the classic ‘Valley Of The Shadows’ (with Ant Miles under the Origin Unknown moniker) in 1993, assured Andy a place in the history of dance music at the age of just 16, but the teenager from Essex wasn’t about to rest on his laurels. As the 1990s went on, and Drum & Bass emerged from Jungle, Andy’s impeccable DJ sets consolidated his status as an essential at any big rave, while Ram continued to develop into one of the most forward thinking and consistent labels in dance music.
Two albums followed for Origin Unknown, ‘Speed Of Sound’ and ‘Sound In Motion’ in 1997 and 1998 respectively, before Andy and Ant linked up within another long-standing local friend, Shimon, to form the mighty Ram Trilogy. In 1999 the trio released ‘Molten Beats’, a landmark drum & bass album that signified just how far the genre come in the few short years since the emergence of Jungle in the early-90s.
DJing more than ever, in almost every corner of the planet, Andy was – and continues to be – repeatedly voted Number One at every D&B awards ceremony going, confirming his reputation for near super-human skills behind the turntables with every set, and demonstrating a technical and musical erudition that led to his fond labelling as a ‘robot’ by the fans that religiously attended the packed-out Ram events at The End nightclub in London’s West End.
In 2003 Andy released the first in his ‘Nightlife’ mix series, winning universal acclaim for its selection and construction and spawning four further instalments over the years that would follow.
Despite this incredible career, the future is set for only bigger and better things for a man who has dedicated the vast majority of his life to the music he loves and believes in. After a year that saw him unleash the latest ‘Nightlife’, moving the Ram nights to London’s Fabric superclub, signing a whole raft of fresh talent to the label and even lecturing at Oxford University, as the new decade develops the man they call ‘The Executioner’ isn’t softening up… in fact, he’s sharpening his axe.

SKREAM & BENGA

SKREAM, a natural born modernist, has a wicked range of sounds that cover hip hop, bass-wobbling dubstep, dreamy electronica, a dark and tribal so-called dubstep, and a strong dose of euphoric jungle. Now he's switching up his DJ sets to include 4/4, techno, garage and grime and, hosting his Rinse FM show alongside Benga–where listeners get to hear new tunes and Skream and Benga's inimitable banter. This is just one of his awesome bass sounds:

BENGA, a funny, bright, charismatic, and like all genius musicians, a bit mad, Benga’s enigmatic personality shines both behind the decks and within his music. Since Night and his acclaimed 2008 album Diary Of An Afro Warrior, Benga has propelled club music in many directions. There’s always bass – loads of bass - but he refuses to be limited by a sound or scene. Benga has done big business with subterranean basslines, evocative instrumentation and undeniable choruses, placing him in the upper echelons of producer/remixers working right now. Hear "Night", one of the classic dubstep anthem from 2007:

And now, known for their bass-centric brand of sci-fi sonics, at last the pair will bring the real sound of bass to the audiences of Jakarta. From their early studio releases on Big Apple Records to their group project Magnetic Man, these childhood friends have put in the necessary work to take their sound from its niche London origins to an awesome level of international prominence. Step to it!

To accompany these heavy weights,
Our best local talents gonna guide you , warm up & close the night properly, so make sure you come early to avoid disappointment

Q-BiK, Australian based, ex-pat New Zealander DJ/Producer has been turning
some heads worldwide, UK, Europe, USA, Canada, South America, Asia, New
Zealand, Australia. A working DJ for 10 years in NZ and Australia, it
wasn't too long until he eventually progressed his way into music
production. This saw Q-BiK's productions gaining support worldwide from
the likes of Pete Tong, Annie Mac & Nerm on BBC Radio 1 and Crissy Criss
on 1XTRA as well as Australian national radio Station, Triple J, which
play listed his first 12" ‘My House’ signed to Planet Funk (UK). Triple J
still plays it regularly!! It became a Massive hit worldwide and was
promptly licensed and featured on DRUM&BASS ARENA’s ‘Summer Selection’
compilation of ‘Biggest Summer Anthems Ever’, not to mention heavy club
support from Brookes Brothers, Danny Byrd, Futurebound and Matrix, Sigma,
Adam F, Kenny Ken and the list goes on! Recently Q-BiK was asked to remix
Killa Kela's new single of his LP, after touring with him in Vietnam. It
is being officially released on the world famous 100% Records UK, which
boast such artists as Moby, Robyn and Placebo!

Q-BiK has also been nominated, Best DnB DJ and Best Local Tune for 'My
House' at the Perth Dance Music Awards 2009, as well as numerous
achievements back home in NZ.

Q-BiK has also supported and been billed alongside every major dnb act as
well as the likes of Pendulum, Killa Kela, Bombfunk MC's Masters At Work,
Xpress2, etc etc. Q-BiK has also played at many NZ and Australian
Festivals like Big Day Out 2011, Good Vibes (NZ - 06), Resolution NYE
(03-06), Uprising NYE (07), Enchanted Forrest (Adl, SA 2008), etc.

Fast forward  to 2008/9 and Seeka MC from the UK teamed up again on the
stage but also  in the studio with Q-BiK and came up with, ‘Let the Music’
signed to Cutterz Choice, the label responsible for launching Benny Pages
career. 'Let The Music' is another huge slice of
dancefloor funk. Catchy vocal stabs and filtered strings ride a shuffling
beat on the intro that builds up to smooth warm bass that will bring out
your funky side. Make no mistake this 12" hits hard on the dancefloor.
Supported by the likes of Nero, Futurebound, Brookes Bros and Camo &
Krooked as well as BBC Radio 1  and 1Xtra by Crissy Cris and Nerm & Dcode.

Currently finishing a new single for DJ SS's world famous Formation
Records. The label behind John B and NERO's early careers. Q-BiK has
recently started producing Electro and Dubstep further widening his skills
as a producer and recently also signed a tune to powerhouse label -
Plasmapool, Super Producer - Myles Dyson's label. WATCH THIS SPACE!!

Q-BiK  has performed in the following places around the world...

Review of Q-BiK , July 10 @ NERO (UK)
http://perthquake.com.au/blog/2010/07/sincerely-yours/

...." Q-BiK took control [AFTER NERO] and showed why he’s one of the
highest rated drum and bass DJs in Australia. The New Zealand born Perth
based DJ and producer who’s been turning heads worldwide never fails to
impress. Mixing with precision, Q-BiK layed down some pumping drum and
bass and managed to keep a very significant number of punters on the
dancefloor til the wee hours."

this is it!!!

LTJ BUKEM (Good Looking Records)

at Potato Head, Jakarta

Friday, March 18, 2011

Supports:

JEROME (JAVABASS)
RANDOM (JAVABASS)

Host by : DFMC & Dymz

Cover: Rp 100,000 (includes first drink)

Door: 10.30 PM

Dress code :
No shorts & sandals

Just who is LTJ Bukem? Ground breaking DJ? Inspirational musician? Record abel
entrepreneur? Club visionary, perhaps? When the man behind those wire rimmed glasses
and that disarming smile writes his job description just what does he put? The man
who took the drum and bass concept from a small venue off London's Charing Cross
Road to the nation's superclubs and then onto the international stage? The geezer
whose records launched breakbeat into a brand new galaxy of sound? Or maybe he just
writes 'Renaissance man for a digital age'. In truth LTJ Bukem is all of the above.
Although he wouldn't like to admit it, LTJ Bukem is the living embodiment of the
post-acid house entrepreneurial creative spirit. He is a mild mannered energy flash
whose panoramic musical vision has found success in every area he has explored. From
running sound systems to cutting up breaks at raves, from relocating the heart of
breakbeat culture to redefining the spirit of drum and bass, the man known to his
friends as Danny Williamson has sat at the forefront of breakbeat evolution,
lighting the way with little more than a zest for life and a love of music. In other
words, LTJ Bukem is a man on a mission!

Bukem's first introduction to music, like so many others, was through piano lessons
as a child. Unlike many however, the young pianist turned out to possess a natural
talent and he quickly moved through the piano grades. Classical music represented
the soundtrack to his home life. Both parents having a passion for Rachmaninov and
Tchaikovsky that rubbed off on their son. However it was when the family moved to
Watford and Bukem changed music teachers that he developed his first true musical
love. Thanks to a progressively minded teacher - Nigel Crouch - he was then
introduced to the world of jazz fusion, a style which has informed his work ever
since. In the mid eighties, at the age of seventeen, Bukem discovered the joys of
clubbing. The teenager regularly checked out the local soul clubs and legendary rare
groove all dayers. As a keen record buyer he soon became interested in the idea of
putting over his own version of the club soundtrack and before long he became
involved with a sound system. During this time he also ran a jazz funk band,
although this never presented itself as a serious past-time; just fun. The DJing was
his main thing and by 1987 he gained something of a reputation for his sets. However
it was in 1988 that Bukem first realised that DJing could offer a full-on career.

In 1990, LTJ Bukem got his first big break - at 'Raindance'. Booked to play between
1 & 2 AM in front of 10,000 people, it was the first true test of this fledgling
DJ's skills. It may have taken all of his mates to push him onto the stage but it
proved to be a set that he'll never forget. From the first track he "ripped it up"
and LTJ Bukem, the world class DJ was truly born.

Naturally, Bukem then ventured into the studio to record a track which was to become
one of the most influential records of the era. This 12" titled 'Logical
Progression' surfaced on the newly formed Vinyl Mania imprint. At once anthemic and
relaxing it offered the first true blueprint to Bukem's sonic vision. By the time of
his follow up to 'Logical Progression' Bukem had set up his own
imprint. Run from a small office in Harlesden, London, the label was christened
'Good Looking' and its debut offering came in the shape of 'Demon's Theme'. Finished
in mid 1990 and pressed up onto dub-plate, Bukem dropped it into his sets for a full
year to test the reaction before he finally released the track officially in July
'91. 'Demon's Theme' immediately caught the imagination of many people, its soulful
combination of rushing breaks, lush ambience and mellow vibes opening up fresh
vistas within the increasingly dark ambience of the rave. Bukem's next release was
'Apollo' Return to Atlantis in '92, however his biggest breakthrough came with his
next release 'Music' in 1993. In 1994 Bukem unleashed '19.5' while the release of
the similarly epic 'Horizons' coincided with the opening of the legendary 'Speed' at
the Mars Bar in London. This was an important time for Bukem. The label was gaining
ground with its growing catalogue of must-have tunes and Bukem's own in-demand
DJing. The launch of 'Speed' was intended to run hand in hand with the growth of
Good Looking while also offering a focal point for the growing drum and bass scene.
After a shaky start, which almost forced the night into closure, 'Speed' quite
literally took off one night in the summer of '94.
Typically, Bukem made the most of this situation. He used the sudden media limelight
to forward his vision, highlighting Good looking Records and its label roster. In
1995 the label licensed a compilation to London Records. Titled 'Logical
Progression' it featured exclusive cuts from the roster alongside older tracks and
is still one of the highest selling drum & bass compilations to have been released.
"I wanted to see the label grow, I wanted to invest in the people who were signed to
the label, so the move had to happen. It was never simply about LTJ Bukem, it was
about Good Looking Records, Logical Progression and the sound."

Bukem's own music never took a back seat. There were remixes (including astounding
reworks of Jodeci's 'Feenin' and Michelle Gayle's 'Sweetness'), his own additions to
the label compilations and a collaboration with David Arnold on the infamous James
Bond theme to 'Thunderball' In the midst of all this rampant activity Bukem also
managed to release the 'Mystical Realms EP' in March '98. The EP featured 'Twilight
Voyage' with sombre flute refrains, chopping keys and an outer world ambience. The
vocal and instrumental versions of 'Orchestral Jam', with its urgent break, echo
dropped sonar and dissonant violins, and final track; the reflective, Herbie
Hancock-esque 'Journey Inwards'. Three tracks, each representing a deeper
development of the Bukem sound, further underlining Bukem's position as a sonic
leader of post
rave breakbeat culture. Bukem continued to produce and mix some of the World's best
Drum & Bass and cross-over compilations that have ever been put out. Titles such as
'Progression Sessions', the 'Earth' volumes and further instalments of the 'Logical
Progression'
series have become notorious for the new and exciting directions that Bukem has
always strived to take, but without losing sight of his original musical roots and
all the things that inspired him in the beginning. The start of the 21st century saw
LTJ Bukem continuing on his extraordinary musical odyssey with his long awaited solo
album 'Journey Inwards'; A diverse and multi directional album of drum 'n' bass,
soul, downbeat and house tracks that opened the eyes of those that had no faith and
warmed the souls and inner belief of those that did. He has also added to his
impressive remixing portfolio with his interpretation of 'The Essence' by jazz
legend Herbie Hancock. On top of this he
has continued the 'Progression Sessions' series of live mixes captured on CD,
featuring storming performances recorded live in The USA, Tokyo and Germany. Bukem
also compiled the highly acclaimed 'Soulfood' and 'Soul Addiction' compilations and
released not one but two 'Producer' series CDs.

Fast-forward to 2007 and after a well earned break from the label and a carefully
considered climate change in the music industry - Bukem and his label re-entered the
fray with new quality releases including the much anticipated Double A sided 12"
featuring 'Switch' by LTJ Bukem and the mighty 'Drum Toolz' by MC Conrad
and Furney on the flip – Released November '07 on Good Looking.

All the while LTJ Bukem will continue to spread the gospel of the Good Looking sound
- setting the main stages of the world alight with his stunning DJ sets.
