The Real Madrid Clear-Out - Who Stays, Who Goes?

As Real Madrid's runaway spending spree continues, president Florentino Perez is making noises about redressing the balance in the squad.

OK, it's not quite balancing the books, but by getting rid of some players to make way for Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and the like, there is a bit more scope for squad harmony.

Perez has boldly stated that the squad will be slashed. "Now we need to calm down a little, because squads usually have around 25 players and ours now has some 35," he told television channel Cuatro.

"We need to concentrate our efforts on convincing some players that they will have to leave. It should not be forgotten there is a World Cup next summer and all our players want to play in it.

"If players aren't going to have the chance to participate here, they'll want to do it somewhere else, to be able to make it to the World Cup."

With that in mind, let's go through the senior squad and ask about the players' futures...

1. Iker Casillas
The goalkeeper, the sub-captain, the club legend in the making, he is undisputed first choice and will be for many years to come.
Should He Go? Not a chance.
Will He Go? Even less of a chance.

2. Michel Salgado
At his peak he was one of the most feared full-backs in the country, and when he hit full flight the effect was terrifying. Now? A spent force, and a liability when he does play.
Should He Go? Yes, he should be first out the door.
Will He Go? As a respected member of the old guard, with just one year left on his contract - this being his tenth year at the club - he may be allowed to fade out with dignity.

3. Pepe
Still wearing his price-tag like a millstone made of albatross feathers, Pepe will probably never overcome his reputation. However, alongside Raul Albiol he should prove to be an effective performer.
Should He Go? No, he's a proven first team performer.
Will He Go? Exceedingly unlikely.

4. Sergio Ramos
The first-choice right-back and a symbol of the club, Sergio Ramos is still raw at the age of 23, but is nonetheless verging on world class.
Should He Go? No.
Will He Go? No way.

5. Fernando Gago
A real 'nearly-man', Gago has been a fixture in the team for some time now, yet he lacks consistency. A tendency to disappear from some games places too great a burden on his partner. However, in games in which he does shine, he exudes a sense of calm that is to the squad's benefit.
Should He Go? If Xabi Alonso comes in, and someone offers money for him, it may be best to allow him to leave.
Will He Go? It's almost certain that he will stay.

6. Lassana Diarra
A mega-money buy from Portsmouth in January, Diarra was a legitimate contender for Madrid's player of the year award, even though he played for just half a season. The diminutive Frenchman is one of the most tenacious players in the Liga.
Should He Go? Not in a million years.
Will He Go? No.

7. Raul
Say what one likes about his dressing room influence, there is still no doubt that this club symbol remains of immense importance at the Bernabeu, even though his limelight has been well and truly taken from him. His first team importance could be lessened this season, but like Guti, he must see about adapting to his new role.
Should He Go? There is a legitimate case for saying so, but in previous years reports of Raul's decline have been vastly exaggerated. The same applies this time.
Will He Go? No way.

8. Kaka
New signing.

9. Cristiano Ronaldo
New signing.

10. Wesley Sneijder
By my measure, Wesley has had a raw deal at the Santiago Bernabeu. The midfielder began his tenure two seasons ago with consistency; injuries, and more competition, have seen him drop almost out of contention. No doubt Perez cast a sideways glance in his direction when it was mooted that players with an eye on the World Cup might wish to move on.
Should He Go? For his own good, probably. It's difficult to see him fitting in now.
Will He Go? It's 50/50. He's onto a good thing, contract-wise.

11. Arjen Robben
Another one who's been dealt a losing hand, Robben braved a massive price tag and accusations of being unfit for the top level by being one of Real Madrid's best performers last season, and impressive the year before, too. The continuing chase for Franck Ribery, along with the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, could mean that his days are numbered.
Should He Go? Like Sneijder, it might be wise to do so, even though he does not deserve to exit as someone who is hardly wanted by Perez.
Will He Go? He will certainly attract plenty of interest from across the continent, and it may be prudent for him to prove his doubters wrong elsewhere. However, he can do so under protest.

12. Marcelo
There's no new left-back at the club yet, but whether or not Manuel Pellegrini entrusts Marcelo with a full-back position remains to be seen. Regardless, he should still be in and around the line-up.
Should He Go? At the age of 21 it isn't mandatory for him to be playing full seasons anyway, so even if he's a rotation player it's not a problem.
Will He Go? Unlikely.

14. Guti
The man, the legend, the attitude. Thirty-two-year-old Guti can still pick a pass with the best of them, and is a vice-captain of the club, but one who's seemingly outlived his usefulness as a regular starter.
Should He Go? If he wants first team football, yes. For any other reason, no.
Will He Go? Highly doubtful.

15. Royston Drenthe
The Dutch winger-cum-full-back hasn't had the easiest of times at Real Madrid, and has suffered some abuse from the fans as he struggles to adapt to life on and off the pitch in the Spanish capital. Certainly he's showed flashes of brilliance, but he's never going to carve out a niche for himself now.
Should He Go? Yes.
Will He Go? Almost certainly.

16. Gabriel Heinze
The former Manchester United man has had a torrid season, but will presumably occupy the left-back position for at least some of the campaign. Perhaps Pellegrini can get the best out of him. One wouldn't hold one's breath, though.
Should He Go? For the good of the team, yes.
Will He Go? Most likely not.

17. Dani Parejo
The faith the Madrid management have in young Dani is plain to see, given that he's been awarded a squad number again ahead of the new season. However, he is unlikely to get much first team action, and that that he does is partially down to cantera tokenism. Either way, expect to see him in and around the first team.
Should He Go? Yes, although one can see why he won't.
Will He Go? On loan, perhaps.

18. Raul Albiol
New signing.

19. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
When he was signed in January it was far from clear exactly where he'd fit in. Sure, he was cover for the injured Ruud van Nistelrooy, but his fellow Dutchman isn't quite finished in the game yet, so it's an awful lot of money to spend on a six-monther. In fact, the ex-Ajax man's input was minimal as the on-fire Gonzalo Higuain kept him out of the side. With Karim Benzema in the squad, he's now a makeweight.
Should He Go? Yes. He should never have signed in the first place, although one doesn't blame him for at least attempting to make the step up.
Will He Go? Yes.

20. Gonzalo Higuain
The young Argentine absolutely went on fire last season and even with the arrival of Karim Benzema must be considered very close to being a first-choice forward. He should be considered a must-stay for the time being.
Should He Go? Absolutely not.
Will He Go? No.

21. Christoph Metzelder
A free transfer who has struggled with injuries, Metzelder will struggle to establish a first-team place for himself following the arrival of Raul Albiol, who should be the default partner for Pepe. In truth he has seldom looked sure of himself in Spain and could benefit from a fresh start.
Should He Go? Yes.
Will He Go? Probably, back to Germany could be the case.

22. Miguel Torres
A full-back of moderate ability, Torres is eminently happy with his position as a squad player and will most likely be kept on for this reason. While being unspectacular he does enough to endear himself sufficiently to a procession of coaches as to be considered part of the furniture, so nobody will be in any hurry for him to leave - least of all himself.
Should He Go? Only if a replacement comes in.
Will He Go? Unlikely.

23. Rafael van der Vaart
What a disaster of a first season for 'VdV'. He is a talented player by anyone's measure, but one who just can't seem to fit the profile in the Spanish capital. Now with Kaka at the club, where exactly is he going to play? In the Copa del Rey? In defensive midfield? It is impossible to detect a niche for him except as injury cover - surely his ability merits a bit more than that.
Should He Go? 100 per cent certainly.
Will He Go? 50 per cent certainly.

24. Javi Garcia
The prize haul of the cantera frenzy last summer, Javi Garcia had a very difficult time of it last season. Granted he was all too often shunted back into a defence light on backup and heavy on injuries, but even in his preferred midfield position he failed to impress. Surely not of Madrid class.
Should He Go? Yes, and very soon.
Will He Go? Most likely.

25. Jerzy Dudek
Dudek is a second-choice goalkeeper who hasn't a hope in hell of ousting Iker Casillas. He'll be deployed in dead-rubbers and in cup games, and that's about it. From Madrid's point of view, as an injury backup he is not good enough for a side looking to challenge for honours.
Should He Go? Yes.
Will He Go? No.

x. Ezequiel Garay
New signing of sorts.

x. Karim Benzema
New signing.

x. Alvaro Negredo
Kind of a new signing, but one worth remarking on. Alvaro was brought back to the club via a buy-back deal and could be used as a makeweight in transfers. If Madrid wish to keep him he'll be by some measures the fifth-choice forward, which says it all.
Should He Go? Yes. Cash in while the iron's hot.
Will He Go? Yes.

x. Ruud van Nistelrooy
Until interrupted by injury, Ruud was scoring just as he'd done for years: with alarming regularity. Now, of course, the breakthrough of Higuain and the arrival of Benzema throws his place into jeopardy. But he's so able in front of goal that even a 50 per cent appearance rate will see him bag the goals. Will that be enough for him to be happy? Assuming he's even granted a squad number!
Should He Go? No.
Will He Go? It's not impossible...

x. Mahamadou Diarra
Another one yet to be given a squad number, Diarra struggled with injury last season but in any case found Lassana Diarra to be a more than able deputy. Mahamadou is a consistent performer himself but with Lass playing so well - and having such a price tag - his recovery may not be sufficient to get him back into the team. Then there's all that talk of Xabi Alonso...
Should He Go? If he doesn't want to be second fiddle to Lass, yes.
Will He Go? If someone new comes in to join the midfield, probably. Otherwise, no.

Huahahahahahahaha  ;D

Kaga ada yg bilang juga itu semua pembelian masa perez or calderon.

Gw cuman bilang Los Galacticos satu itu gagal dalam prestasi, tapi berhasil dalam segi business. (well football is an industry now, so nothing I can't say about that "bad or good")

Well, some times you just don't want to admit it. Madrid terlalu sering bongkar pasang squad, yg dalam realitas team bola itu butuh adaptasi. Elo juga komentar yg sama kan buat ikan selar. Nah itu doang point gw, Makanya gw ikutan.

El Real emang team paling tajir dan bebas mau beli and buang sapa aja.
Kaca mata kita ngeliatnya mereka belanja suka2, padahal dapur mereka sapa yg
tau kalo pembelian itu sebenernya strategi business mereka doang x.

Cheers lah, sejak pindah ke madrid gw malah jadi suka CR9 nih..

wah wah club gw di usut2 nih..

gini yeh..asal usul galacticos pertama itu, figo, zidane, ronaldo, gravesen, woodgate, beckham, owen..

nah klo gago, diarra muhammadu, drenthe, higuain, marcelo, metzelder, robben dll, seperti kata raihan itu mah yg beli calderon, and udah ngga jamannya galacticos2an.. prestasi juara liga 2 kali berturut2..

buat semua yah..udah lah terima nasib aja sih madrid belanja and punya pemain bagus2..juara ngga juara wong kompetisinya blom mulai..jadi jangan banyak cincong kita saksikan saja nanti.. yah

buat man ure fans..merki amat sih udah di kasih £80m belinya cuma £3m sama gratisan..ckkckkckk

Elo kabanyakan cingcong kali, Valencia emang brp harganya???????

weeeiiitsss ngga santai...

diarra yg diatas gw kira muhammadu, yah dia khan lagi cedera,
kasus si ikan selar yah gw sih cukup kecewa yah, abis dia satu2nya yg bisa gantiin nistelrooy, cuma jeleknya madrid raul itu ngga bisa di otak atik, kemaren emg doi sempet on fire sampe jadi pencetak goal terbanyak madrid skrg, cuma khan doi bisa cape juga nah disaat itu si ikan selar ngga dimaenin.
sapiolah emg fit terus cuma mau main dimana?posisi apa?iye ngerti robben cedera mulu, cuma si sapiolah masih blom mampu bersaing sama higuain, raul, or even si ikan selar, kesian sih doi cuma main 11 kali dalem seluruh musin kemaren gol-in 2, yah mudah2an di benfica lancar lah karir doi.

NB: anjis klo gw ngomongnya ngaco maap yah, stonned abis nih and baru melek
