Firstly, it comes in quite a slim and small box, giving us the impression this product was going to disappoint in some way. Unboxing the Alctron LS001, brings you the stand as well as the shelf wrapped in paper. No manuals nor frills. Just the stand, shelf and two screws (to mount the shelf).

On first look, the Alctron LS001 looks similar to the Stanton Uberstand, it looked amazing, didn't look like anything cheap at all (unlike the Crane Stand Standard, which we got earlier this year). The material feels solid and rugged, and definitely looks like it can take a beating. Only difference between the Uberstand and the Alctron is that the Uberstand has one rod holding it up, the Alctron has two.

So, the stand unfolds easily, just need to tighten up two screws for the bottom - so that the stand won't fall back when in use. Setting up the stand took us only 35 seconds, and 32 seconds on our second attempt.

The height is just perfect in our opinion. It holds up a 17-inch Macbook with no issues. The only factor that we knew was going to be an issue - like the Stanton Uberstand, is the fact that when we press down on the laptop while on the stand, it wobbles slightly, but that only occurs when the laptop is pressed down, when typing or when mashing buttons like crazy on it, it stays perfectly stable.

The stand is very light, at 2.2kgs w/ the shelf. Without the shelf it feels much lighter. The shelf itself weighs easily around 700grams. The shelf can be positioned on 3 different heights on the stand. The shelf like the Uberstand also features big holes, which are meant to organize cables from your soundcard. The shelf also seems much broader than the Uberstand's, which is great - we just feel more secured that our soundcard isn't going to fall off.

Like the Uberstand, it's downfall is that it's in-adjustable, and it occupies quite some space. But that's a sacrifice paid for the quick setup time, and light weight.

After inspecting and testing the stand, it became apparent to us why it was priced so low - there were light scratches on the bottom, small dings on the shelf, and slight imperfections. Apparently Alctron didn't invest in Quality Control as much. The imperfections are minor, and did not bother us at all - over time any laptop stand will be subject to dings and scrapes, so it's still a great bargain for a laptop stand of this quality.

So, on overall the Alctron is a no-brainer for the price. It's durable, rugged, light-weight, quick-to-assemble, and it does it's job well. We are really happy with it, and are ecstatic about having it in our product line. We have it in Silver and Black. PS. Both colors look great.
