Trance music has become one of the most popular genres of dance music recently, with DJs like Paul Oakenfold, DJ Tiesto and Paul Van Dyke taking it to the mainstream while making household names for themselves. Jeremy Dawson and Chad Petree of Cloud2Ground/Slyder recently had their single "Score" spun by Dave Ralph as his peak-time track in this years' love parade, while Paul Van Dyke regularly spins their stuff, as well. Redsavior has actually released a remix CD featuring 8 different remixes of his single "Searching for You" and Sweden's 19-year-old Jonathan Gremyr, aka Coretex, seems to be a name on everyone's lips...

Trance being such a hot item, one might logically conclude that now would be a great time for a compilation showcasing some of the talented artists that have erupted onto the scene. Eclectica 4 does just that by serving up some great Underground Trance.

The album, although largely instrumental with a few samples here and there, gives you a real sense of devotion all the way through. "Yah-Weh" by Greg Hobgood of The Prodigal Sons is a perfect example of this! The music thunders as high keys and emotional riffs abound, while the beat thumps, blending into the song perfectly.

Son of Dust hits you with "The Resurrection" which has a really cool sample that sounds like it was snagged from an old movie, "I am the Resurrection and the Life. He that believeth in me shall never die." The song is Trance, but also really has a Progressive House feel to it, with a bit of a hard vibe that I really like!

Coretex contributes his track "Lay Your Wings Around Me" that first appeared on the January issue of the Tastyfresh CD Pool. This version is a completely different mix, but still has the famous "Love your enemies, forgive those who use you" sample.

"Searching For You" by Redsavior is possibly the most anticipated track on the album, as David Richardson did a fantastic job of promoting his contribution, as well as designing one of the coolest covers I have ever seen for this album! It has a real Sci-Fi feel and is sleek and colorful. This track has a very hard, deep bass thump with a bit of Tribal influence. It has a nice contrast of hard and soft... I have seen it show up on several DJ play lists already.

"Weight" by Antidote has a hard grind, with some Techno influence here and there. The female vocal sample and spacey soundscape keep it on the Trance tip, though, and it ends with a spooky vibe.

"Activation (Fulfilled Mix)" by Systematic has nice build that gradually brings you up to a full speed jam. The sample, "Get Ready" adds to the anticipation in key spots, making the switchups and breakdowns even more enjoyable.

Prophetica contributes a truly beautiful piece of Uplifting Trance with "What is Hope", a track that makes you feel good right down to your shoes. The male vocal sample says, "What is Hope? Hope is inexpressibly beautiful." The music is epic!

"Theophony" is a Progressive Trance track by Eternalist that sounds like it might have been included on The Devout Artists Compilation. It has a really smooth groove that makes you feel as if you are floating along with the music.

Revurb also hits you with a Progressive Trance "choon" that moves you, called "Stronger Than Before". It contains ethereal-sounding breakdowns, but when the beat comes back in, it is a very fast moving track that can move the floor.

"XaltR" is a nice surprise from Skywryter who seems to have just surfaced in the scene this year. It has a nice throbbing vibe to it, reminiscent of Underground Progressive House and is layered with really nice Trancey riffs and a beautiful melody.

"Clear Orbit (Live)" by Analogue Prophets is one of my favorite tracks off this project. Matthew Buri amazes me with his wizardry of electronics and completely blew us all away here in Michigan. He did a fantastic job of playing the role of producer and putting this whole album together. His Progressive Trance track shows you he is one of the best out there and the high pitched tapestry sticks in your head for days.

This project is of the highest caliber, and definitely gets a stamp of excellence. Get your copy now, if you like Trance you'll love it, and if you don't it might be the album to change your mind!
