Our second annual list of the world's top VJs
In appreciation of the growing significance of visual artists in clubland, DJmag unveils who we believe to be the top 20 VJs in the world 2005.

The Results

1 Hexstatic -
Stuart Warren Hill and Robin Brunson left all other VJs eating their dust in 2005. Their guerilla gigs and playing at the Thames Festival firmly established them as major stars.



2 Addictive TV -
Addictive TV are the London-based VJs and producers renowned for their forays into television with the 'Mixmaster Series'. They organised this year's Optronica festival.



3 Eclectic Method -
This year these boys have done videos for Dizzee Rascal, White Stripes, MIA, Prodigy, and Basement Jaxx. Their DVD release 'We're Not VJs' was released to critical acclaim.



4 The Light Surgeons -
Since their early visual work with independent record labels such as Ninja Tune, Mo'Wax and Wall of Sound the Light Surgeons have built up an international reputation.



5 VJ Anyone -
VJ Anyone's work with Hed Kandi and Encompass was notable this year. He's also just launched a VJ course to pass on his knowledge onto budding VJs.



6 VJ Culture -
One of the most prolific VJs in the US, and a key figure behind the Lumens Festival. In 2005 he toured Japan, and is currently busy writing a book about VJing.



7 Cold Cut -
Ninja Tune founders Matt Black and Jonathan Moore have rocked crowds at Glastonbury and The Big Chill this year. Their new album is due for release in early 2006.



8 VJamm Allstars -
with six performers, VJamm Allstars have the presence of a touring band. This year they've produced work for Channel 4, and helped develop Vjamm software.


9 Yeastculture -
Yeastculture's European tour will climax with three spectaculars at the Royal Albert Hall. This year they've been involved in community projects.


10 V Squared Labs -
This year, Vello Virkhaus aka V Squared Labs directed visual effects for Billy Idol's 'Scream' and Coldplay's 'Speed of Sound'.

11 Shinji Murakoshi -
A self-taught artist who launched his work from his hometown in Tokyo. Has received awards from MTV, and recently toured San Fran, LA, and New York.



12 D Fuse -
The London-based D Fuse were founded in mid-1990s. This year they've produced DVDs and toured with Beck, and have just finished a book on Audiovisual culture.



13 4YourEye -
One of the most important VJ artists in Europe. This year they've opened Formula One events this year, and played in Malaysia, Russia, and Germany.



14 Micha Klein -
Micha Klein has been at the forefront of VJing since its conception. This year he's played alongside Tiësto, and in Jakarta and Hong Kong.



15 Holly Daggers -
Holly has helped raise the profile of VJing in New York. Now touring with Busta Rhymes, Miri Ben Ari, and The All Mighty Senators.



16 Punkvert -
Gender-bemused duo Candi's Flipped and Funkcutter have hosted polysexual parties around the world. Their first audiovisual album 'Wishing Up The Marks' premiered in San Fran in 2005.



17 AlexEtJeremy -
Now based in Amsterdam, this year Alex and Jeremy played at The Big Chill, and won this year's three-day InFrame VJ Battle, beating 15 other VJ crews.



18 Fritz Fitzke -
Based in Vienna, Fritz is the man behind Kruder & Dorfmeister's visuals and tours with them internationally. He also has a residency at the Drama Club in Vienna.


19 Lovemushroom -
Originally from Tokyo, Lovemushroom has played over 200 live performances. His organic 3D projections spring up all over LA, at underground parties and regularly at Hollywood's Club Avalon.


20 Inside Us All -
London-based trio Mark Calvert, Ralph Lambert, and Dave Green won this year's Diesel-U-Music 'Best VJ' award. They've also set up a registered charity this year.
